      Lucid Clock -- Software (Windows)

I'm currently working with a developer on an Alarm software that lets you set your REM periods and how long your triggers will last. It will flash the screen and play what ever audio file you want for how ever long. So based off a REM period chart you could set 4 or 5 triggers throughout the night. Requirements are PC with Windows XP or 2000 and .NET framework 1.1.

I'll post some screen shots this week. We figure it will retail shareware for around $19 dollars (much cheaper than a Nova Dreamer). The money will go into further development for more features in the software. This would be great for people who have laptops by their bed and sleep alone!!!

$19? I think it's great that you're working on software to help LD, but aren't there already many "alarm" programs out there that have these exact features? When to set time, what images to set off, etc.

Hrm yeah... citrus alarm clock is free ( http://www.ornj.net/citrus/ ) and it is a super good program. Multiple alarms and the whole shmeal (even a fade in thing)

PS: What's the point of the screen flash thing? You're eyes are closed when you're sleeping and it's not too practical to put it right up to your face while sleeping

Citrus is alarm program which requires interaction to disable.

Lucid Clock will allow you to set how long the trigger last so will shut off at what ever time you specify. People can train themselves to see flashing lights like using the Nova Dreamer sleep mask. It will flash the entire room when dark, which you could see while sleeping. You don't have to have the laptop close to you for your eyes to pick up the flash cue. Again you could play any lucid file during the cue REM period. We hope to have a demo soon!

Why charge $19 though? I'm pretty sure it didn't take that long (or big a budget) to make this

      Several points:

      1. Charging money for something so trivial is not only foolish (my opinion) but won't bring much profit at all at the same time restricting the usage of something that is made to help people (logical analysis).
      2. Open source forever.
      3. And you needed .NET to accomplish something of this level why...?
      4. The app'll be cracked and freely distributed on the net (granted not too widely spread for obvious reasons) before you can say "Posix".
      5. Down with MS.

      That is all...

P.S. Intent and will power are the best "utilities" to achieve anything; let alone something so deeply related with the subconscious as lucid dreaming.

I can't tell you the .Net platform reason, I'm not a developer.
Before you go Microsoft anti-trust on us, we ended up on deciding NOT charging but just a dontation button...if people like it and can use it. I just wanted my friend to get something for his time since he does not practice lucid dreaming and will not use the product.

Your time and ingenuity is worth something. If what you are doing is truly unique, don't be talked into giving it away. It isn't foolishness.

Never preemptively undervalue your time or ability. Let the market decide... which it will. This could launch you into a whole new world... you may be the guy who ends up creating a USB mask that detects REM. You'll never do it without money to work with though.

Sounds pretty cool. Personally I think you should make it free until some people try it out and you get some feedback. If people like it you could make a "pro" version with extra features and charge for that or something. Or make it a one-month evaluation. If it works for people then they will probably buy it, if it doesn't then they can feel good about not having wasted their money. I say start free, if it works, start charging.

i use the Ihome ipod alarm clock... it doesnt have multiple alarms, but it is great for setting your mind to remembering dreams and i can set it to sleep in increments of 30 minutes up to 120. So i downloaded text aloud and creating some meditative music to sleep to and to play in between dreams...

Currently I'm using a MAC alarm clock, although it has triggered lucids; it's annoying that it continues to loop and you have to (at one point) go hit snooze or dismiss. That is the purpose of our program. No interaction needed.

Were just doing some finishing bug testing for Lucid Clock, I should have the beta-executable posted soon for testing. I'll post the executable in Resarch once it's ready!

      Thanks!

Great, thanks for your interest. Our main purpose of course, would be to attain full lucidity. I'm sure it will work for me and others when triggered mp3's cause a lucid, that's fine. But the main thing I'm interested in is will you see the flashing screen or your room flashing in the dream, similar to nova dreamer, granted that is a mask directly on your eyes. This could be much harder to spot but I'm curious on everyone's results.

      Thanks!

My friend is programming not me but he's doing some fine tuning on the audio player within the application. After that I do some bug testing then I'll post the Executable in Research so keep your eyes posted. Hopefully Next week sometime.

I've PM'd my beta-testers, thanks for your contribution. I think a month or more should be adequate but post anything and all results if possible.

Initial Bug test: I tried to open my saved alarms and the status is passed (therefore they will not retrigger). I tried to recreat alarms and again status is passed. This being said your trigger will only work the first night and any new triggers created. Major BUG!
I've posted this to the developer for correction.

Bug Testing: I was able to load new alarms after 12:00 midnight just to test the functionality of the alarms. All alarms triggered and shut off. When they triggered the screen was flashing as selected. Thing to note, this program seems to work best where the computer is closer (i.e flashing and better control of volume) Laptops are ideal.

Items to correct in beta version:

The status is affecting setting new alarms and saved alarms, this will be removed and /or corrected.

When you save your alarms it should also save your preferences such as flashing colors and speed and audio file selected and volume.

When you test the audio file it make you reselect the audio file everytime. We are changing this so it will be saved so then you'll just need to adjust the volume slider.

My developer should be getting me a new executable on Monday 12th, after initial bugs are gone we'll distribute to beta testers for research.

Tested application again, all seemed fine. My issue was I was using crappy speakers with the laptop the music had to much bass and the voices didnt come through enough so I'll need to adjust the file accordingly. I moved the laptop closer, I noticed now when my eyes were closed I did see the flashing. I'm curious to see if this is strong enough to carry over into the dream.

I got an error last night but all three triggers that I set went off. Unfortunately I didnt sceen shot it (print screen) open in paint brush. If any beta testers get errors please send them to me as a BMP. That way I can open them at work.
