      Fear of WILDing...

I really wanna think about trying the WILD technique, but it sounds like...funky. I could go through the vibrations and everything but like the sounds and disturbing images i've heard of...

I know I can't be hurt, but i'm definetly easily frightened. I just really want to try it though. Do you have any ideas for helping me?

      Thanks.

      Hey there!

You really shouldn't be afraid of WILD at all. Remember, the disturbing images are all part of a dream, and cannot hurt you. In fact, I was easily frightened when I was little, but WILD never affected me at all.

And another thing, no matter what happens, remember it is all a dream. Even if you are up out of bed in the middle of the night reading an open book on the counter, it is still a dream, and really, it cannot hurt you. Don't worry! Have fun!!

Hey I was scared to do WILD too, before I tried it. IL've read all the freaky stories and that freaked me out, but some nights ago I decided to go for it and actually it was a lot of fun! I just got some flashes of light and some hypnagogic sound before getting into the dream, which was actually a false awakening.

Anyway you can always try WILD for a lot of fun! And as nesgirl said there's nothing to be afraid of, just remember that ot's all a dream

      What nesgirl said.

ALSO, the "scary stories" you hear bout HI and WILD are the exception rather than the rule. In the vast majority of cases, WILD ain't scary at all. Myself, when I can get it to work (only twice so far) it's been not at all scary, and fantastic fun, even if the actual LDs I got were short.

that's the point... it's just too unstable and ask too much effort, compared to a "normal" LD!

Yah, but, the argument is, if you can learn to reliably WILD, then you can eventuially learn to reliably stabilise and extend them. It's gonna be a long, hard road, but meh. I figure, a big payoff if I can do it right. So, WILD is my technique of choice, and I'm gonna continue slogging it out. Meh. Plus, I've had non-WILD LD's, and they're just not the same. In my DILDs, I was lucid, but everthhing was as vague as it was in my non-lucids. In my WILDs.... wow. May have been dizzy, and blurry, and dark, but... it's walking in a dream. Hard to explain. I like WILD. I'm sticking with it. I might eventually get around to MILD on the side, but WILD is my primary focus.

My first WILD was REALLY scary but that was becuase it was new to me and even though i new what was going on it was strange. I still get a little scared when i have more WILD but im trying to break that barrier and use it to my advantage since im getting them offen now!

I know what you mean about it sounding scary. I haven't gotten around to WILDing yet as I don't have a good alarm clock and don't want to lose sleep on weekdays, where i don't get enough sleep in the first place, adn the one time I planned on it, I had a scary dream right before, adn was too freaked out. My opinion is just chose a time when you're in a good mood and not feeling scared to WILD, becasue that way it will make you feel more confortable about the whole thing.

      I'm not quite yet satisfied...but i'm getting there. I might try tonight....Possibly.

It's just the thing's I've heard of waking up in the middle and being paralyzed, and being in the room with Death, or aliens in a ship.

      Just...

Yah, I know what you mean. But think of it like this: it's like Australians being stupid louts. You only ever hear about the cases where Aussies are stupid louts... this is because, there's no reason to rave about the particular cases in which Aussies AREN'T stupid louts.

In the case of Australians, the stereotype is mostly true, but that's besides the point.
(Heheheheh... sorry, I\'m just joking. I actually love Oz and Austraaaaaaalians, a whole lot better than NZ actually, but, I couldn\'t resist a good-natured trans-tasman jibe...)

With WILD and Old Hag, just because you only hear about the really scary cases (which can't harm you anyway, cos it's all in your head), there's a tendency to think that the exceptions are, in fact, the rule...

      Good luck!

I tried WILDing a week ago, and when I started getting paralysed and felt the weight on my chest, I got slightly nervous. So, I told myself that I was being swamped with kittens and puppies... I ended up bursting out laughing and losing concentration.

That is okay, because it is common for people to get scared/surprised when they first WILD. When splash had one at my house, she was nervous, because she felt like her body was falling asleep and vibrating, and I told her not to be afraid, that she would soon WILD (too bad I did that, because it took her longer to WILD). My first one was just more surprising than scary. I was 3 and could not talk (didn't learn how to til I went to the U to learn how to when I was 4), but I was thinking to myself, "If I was fading into my mind earlier, then I must be dreaming!" I was in my preschool, and though I could not talk (even in my dream), I was stunned, thinking, "I know I am dreaming, but how could I be dreaming, and still have awareness?" All of these questions flooded through my head, and this woke me up after a while.

It's just the thing's I've heard of waking up in the middle and being paralyzed, and being in the room with Death, or aliens in a ship. [/b]
Those are just stories, and they are only really dream images your mind sees while your body is asleep. It can actually be kind of fun if you think about it, and no you cannot die, but you might either wake yourself up, or find yourself reading an open book (I love doing that) in a FA like scenerio!

That's the "old hag" phenomenon. From what I understand you are in sleep paralisys, so you can't move, adn aliens or death are just HI. Some people think they're demons or something, but that is a completely ridiculous idea, adn all it really is is SP and scary HI, adn it can't hurt you.

Ok so here lemme fill you in on what happened...

Last night I was extremely tired, and didn't even feel like attempting a WILD. So I went to sleep and set my alarm clock to 3. So then my alarm clock went off. I opened my eyes and turned it off. Relaxed for a minute, and then closed my eyes and started focusing on the images behind my eyes. I was starting to feel the vibrations when my cat started scratching at the screen door outside my room. This completely ruined my concetration and I opened my eyes. Then something weird happened...I looked up at the ceiling and I saw a huge spider, like see through though, walk all the way out of my room. I MEAN IT WAS HUGE! Like as big as my fan. I almost pissed myself...

So was that HI? I'm confused...

It could have been, but sometimes shadows of spiders or pieces of dust can get really big, and may confuse you.

Just be glad that you don't beat the stuffing out of your kitty for disturbing you, because I sure do, and they really know to run when I come out!

But I know it wasn't a shadow because there was no light in my room. It was like glowing and see through...It was really weird.

I have the best way to get a WILD. I watch a simpsons tape, put the contrast and brightness on low so it does not enoy me, watch for a bit then try and sleep. I almost always go into SP the only thing is that the sound enoys me and i wake up. But when i wake up im as tired as hell so once i did a FILD straigt away and i think i fell aleep becuase i heard the sound from the tape go all funny and really fast. I must of then woken up from the shock.
