      How long does it take?

So ive searched through the forums trying to find this topic somewhere else. I couldn't find it.

I am new to this whole dreaming/lucid dreaming thing. I've always been good at remembering dreams and have had a few short lucid dreams by accident quite a while ago. Just recently. 10 or more days ago i started to get interested in lucid dreaming. Ive been keeping a dream journal and have been doing reality checks very often.

I have yet to become lucid. How long does it usually take for someone like me who can usually remember 1 or 2 dreams a night?

oh. i have come close though. I was dreaming a few days ago and i told someone that what i had just done was the result of me being in a dream. But then i woke up. I also did that finger technique and moved into a dream (in the moring) where i was looking at a my hand (which was green like a monster) and pushing on the door yelling stay out im trying to dream. But then i woke up. Ive also done reality checks in my dreams but immediately woken up. This stuff all happens in the mornings while i am going in and out of sleep.

How long did it take you guys to have your first full out lucid dream?

I'll then give you encouragement. I'm terrible at dream recall. In my opinion Lucid Dreaming has 3 steps:
      1) Dream recall
      2) Being able to get a lucid dream
      3) Controlling your lucid dreams

And I'm still stuck at step one, while you're at step 2.

      That's encouragement for you

Yeah... because you realized you're dreaming while in a dream. It was just..... very very very short.

How long? When I got into this ages ago, I had great dream recall. I got a good book n had a good long lucid dream on the 1st night. My wife did similar when she started trying to LD. The enthusiasiam one has at the beginning, can produce instant results. That said, Years before, I used to do the casteneda Reality check with your hands frequently, I'd say it was half a year before it worked. Essentially I reckon there is absolutly no standard time for this.

For me a question I'd be interested in is how long has it taken people to develop from having LD's occasionally, to regular, well sustained LD's? I think there are a lot of people at the novice stage, who've gotten their feet wet, but don't seem near getting a free pass to the swiming pool. Just the odd splash. For me the only potential with LD's is having enough access to them to explore things. Not just occasional shortish ones.
Probably the same answer. For some the progression is instant, for others vary's

hmm. I am pretty energetic about it. I spend a lot of time doing reality checks and the like. I guess discovering how it works for me will be part of the joy of learning it. Im expecting it to be easier after exams are done and i begin working. I will be working construction and can think all day. So i will just dedicate a lot of time while working to think about it.

I think i will see a lot more progress soon.

LOL. Yeah. You just haven't had dream control. Every time you realized you were dreaming was an LD. You've had plenty. As for how long it takes to develop control, I don't know. What I do know is if you want to not wake up almost instantly (which is what's happened to me), you have to learn, and implement stability tricks. I'd say you're doing great if you're keeping a DJ, doing RCs, and are having low level LDs. You've made more progress in 2 weeks than I've made in more than two months, but that because I'm having trouble getting myselt to DJ and RC. I takes different amounts of time for everyone, but if you continue to have many short LDs and remember to practice stabilizing, you'll be an expert pretty quickly.
