      advice on WILDing?

Hi, I'm quite new to this lucid dreaming business, but I've been browsing this forum for about a month now as a guest, and have had 2 DILDs, however I awoke the moment I became lucid (d'oh).

I have alo tried about 10 times to WILD, but each time I saw some very vivid light patterns and had quite a strong sense of numbness (beginnings of SP?) but got no further than that (I tried for about 1.5-2 hours each time).

I was wondering if someone could give me some help as what to do to get past this stage?

Thanks in advance for replies - great forum btw.

Say, glad you have decided to sign up and post! Welcome on board!

WILDs can be illusive, please tell me a little more about how and when you are trying to WILD, fill in as much detail as you can, sometimes it is just some little tiny thing that gets in the way.

      Cheers for the reply.

Most of my WILD attemps have been in the morning - from 5 to 8 o'clock. I might try a number of times, only on weekends or days off, as I have school all other days .

I start off laying on my side, which is where I feel most comfortable, and tell myself once that I aim to WILD successfully. I then close my eyes as I might do if I was trying to sleep normally. After a while (around 10-20 minutes) my limbs start to feel numb, although it doesn't take alot of effort to move them if I want to.

I then start to see moving light patterns (often the shape of flying birds), and as time goes on they tend to get more and more vivid. Both these things carry on for about an hour or more, the light patterns going on for a few minutes, then blackness, then light patterns again etc. I then usually give up and open my eyes, as it takes too long and their is no change in the intensity of either the numbness or the light patterns (they stop getting more vivd after a certain point where they are very clear).

While most of this is happening, my mind wanders, but as time progresses, I find I can concentrate more easily, and when this happens I try to concentrate either on my breathing or just thinking what I can do to progress to a later stage of WILD.

I think that's pretty much it. The numbness never nearly gets so intense that it stops me from moving. With a little more effort than normal, I can move as usual, although it feels odd.

The few times that I have tried in the early hours of the morning (2-4 o'clock) have just about all ended in me being too tired to stay awake and accidentally going to sleep.

Hope that's enough information - I've read the WILD tutorials quite a number of times, trying to find something that I'm not doing, but to no avail . Anyway, thanks for the reply, and for anymore to come.

Have the same problem, although experiences differ a bit

Hey, FinalStraw. I have that same problem, although your experiences differ slightly from mine. I wake up suddenly after hearing strange noises , can't describe them.

I go to bed at around 11:00-11:15pm, like you I lay on my side as I find it most comfortable. I shut my eyes and keep thinking to myself 'Am I dreaming' over and over again. Time passes and I can no longer feel my body from the neck down, it's gone all numb. Next I get the feeling that I'm floating, unable to feel my bed under me. And depending on which side I lay on, I feel like I'm being propelled through the air. I have never seen patterns like you have. But then I hear those strange noises that I can't describe.......*thinking hard*..........actually I can, they kinda sound like talking backwards.
not like 'cool am I' I mean 'looc ma I'. Whats worse is that they sound so realistic and in my ear I jump out of my skin. It's annoying!!!

i think im getting to about the same stage as FinalStraw with the numbness...i cannot feel any part of my body but then i get really really bored or just feel awkward slightly and i have to move, the second i start moving my whole body just returns to normal

i get some weird things like occasionally i see a scene which looks like its from a picture or film but then it's gone and i just have nothing for however long...

...i think i just get tired/bored after then and end up not concentrating and falling asleep

i'd like to leanr to WILD well as it is the most reliable once you get the hang of it...but i'm also rather impatient, which may be my problem

thanks in advance for any advice

When you guys see flashes and sounds you're right at the edge.Usually when you normally fall asleep, you dont see that stage going right trough it to the dream itself .
At that point you have to stay focused and calm,as if you were unaware of all this and flashes will turn into images, sounds will be more audible and bang into the dream itself, full wild. At least that's what i do and it works for me, along with my focus point "jump"
I remember the first few times i'd jump in my bed with the sounds, like someone talking right beside my ear at normal volume, when you know you're alone in a darkened room it's a bit annoying loll, but you have to get used to it

You might also try too hard, it's one of the main barrier.Let everything go, dont try to feel everything, sense everything. Just get there focus on the point not the path
Everything looks much better from up there

      Nice. Same problem here...

I guess I'll try not getting so anxious about not letting the flashes and sounds go; I usually get them a bit and then lose them.

      Thanks Kobalt

Thanks for the tips Kobalt, I'll try that tonight. Think about why I'm doing this rather than trying to feel and sense everything.

I've had the same problem a while back, the minute something out of the ordinary happened, it kinda jolted me out of focus and the only fact that i was concentrating on that event, made it harder to acheive what i started to do. It came much easier when i started to ignore all those annoying things (not that they are annoying but it dragged me away from my goal) But i admit, you have to get used to it and it is hard not to see them lol, like asking a kid to concentrate on the cash register of a candy store, but it's fesable with patience

I tried what Kobalt and 'guide to end all guides on WILDing' (or whatever it is) last night and was alot more successful than before. The numb feeling was alot stronger than before and it took less time, but a car or something outside woke me up, dammit.

Anyway, thanks to Kobalt and BillyBob 001 (the person who wrote the WILDing thread, I think), both tips have helped alot so cheers.

Well, I tried to WILD again last night, and the stronger numb feeling was there, and so were the light patterms, but that's as far as I got for about an hour of lying there.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can advance beyond this stage? Cheers for any help anyone can give.

Numbness doesn't mean much in my opinion. I try to WILD in the middle of the day once in a while, and I always reach a stage of numbness, but it's still a few steps away from hitting SP.

      Here are my tips:

      - Try doing it when you wake up naturally from a dream, that is if you do. Alarm clocks can throw off your REM cycle and it may take a little extra time to reset it. For some reason, I always wake up 5:00-6:00AM naturally (I usually fail at this time), and again at 8:00-9:00AM which I have a big success rate at. When you wake naturally, this is really key - if you can catch yourself waking up, what you can do is, do not open your eyes, do not move a muscle, you could be thrown into SP within a minute. If you do move around, open your eyes, no worries, it can still be accomplished, it will just take slightly longer. I actually have an alarm set to 6:30AM, but I never remember waking up and turning it off I'm horrible with them.

      - I don't know if you see this, but I know I'm close when the following happens. I start getting 3D HI, where I can see scenes playing out in front of my eyes(brief and quick, usually switching around), but the seem to have 3D details. This means you are almost there. Flashes in my case mean nothing, I get those minutes after closing my eyes in mid-day when try, and I have to achieve it mid-day (if it's even possible). Swirling colors, I'd say about 50% there.

      - Look for a "falling into my bed" or "collapsing into myself" feeling. Don't sit there and constantly think about it, becuase you probably won't get there if you do. If you are concious enough, you'll know when it hits. When you get to this point, you will know, this part usually only lasts a few seconds, and you can even help it along with your mind by focusing in this feeling. Once this has passed, I usually have a very static-like feeling around me, I don't think everyone feels this, but it's something to let me know I'm in SP.

      - I'm sure you've heard this, but don't get to excited. You probably will the first few times, I messed up atleast 5-6 SPs since joining before I finally completed a WILD because I got way to excited.

      - And here's an extra tip. Once you induce SP, it's very easy to re-induce upon returning to the full waking state if you know what to do. If you fail, or your body kicks you out for some reason, do not fight the SP to wake up faster, let your brain wake the body up on its own. When you return to the full waking state, if you do not feel recharged, if you still tired, do not move, do not open youe eyes (if you did, just them right away), and focus on what the feeling of falling into SP (the "falling through the bed" or "collapsing into myself") felt like, and within seconds, you could achieve SP again. (Provided you haven't slept 10+ hours of overslept, or your body will feel to recharged).
