There seems to be a lot of "I almost had a WILD" threads, so I thought I'd share mine.

I've been trying WILD for a few days since MILD LDs have seemed to slow way down for me. Last night was the closest yet.

I woke up as usual about 4:30 and went to the bathroom. Got back in bed and started the 61 pt. relaxation technique. After that I turned over on my side and just concentrated on counting breaths. After a few minutes of that I felt like I needed to move so I just blew off WILDing and turned over onto my stomach. Within minutes, I started getting the wave-like throbs through my body. Also, there was an almost violent buzzing in my whole body. It was so loud and freaky that I almost stopped. Strangely, there was no HI.

Well, right after that I had an FA. I got out of bed (in my dream,) and I remembered that I had been trying to have a WILD so I did not one but TWO RCs and they both failed! I poked my finger through my palm but since it was dark and I couldn't really see my hand so I held my nose and tried to breathe. It seemed like all was normal. It was really strange because I strongly suspected that this was a dream (partial lucidity?) yet just didn't connect all the dots. I woke up a few minutes later and was pretty mad.

Well, the good news is I eventually went back to sleep and had my first LD in almost two weeks (DILD) so it was a success after all.

There are a couple of things I leaned from this that might help others trying to WILD for the first time. First, make sure your RCs are done often and thoroughly. My RCs lately have been pretty half-hearted and if I had been doing them correctly, I'm convinced that I would have known that I was dreaming immediately and my WILD would have worked. Secondly, don't worry about changing positions with WILD. In the past I was so hung up on not moving that if I had to move I would just end the WILD attempt. Last night showed me that if you can remain relaxed, moving slowly into new positions shouldn't matter (unless you're already seeing HI or feeing vibrations in which case you'd better remain still.)

Sorry this was so long but thought it might be useful for some folks. Happy dreaming!

I had a similar experience while attempting a WILD for the first time, I kinda spazzed out though hehe.

Anyway, I was trying to pay attention to my breathing as my body lay still. Eventually I felt like my eyeballs would fall out and I felt disoriented. I became too excited as I felt vibrations and woke up feeling all sweaty. Through this whole ordeal, all I saw was blackness.

Now I'm working on the MILD since it appears to be working progressively for me. But after reading your post I could reconsider, thanks!

Oh about the reality checks. I've heard of so many different ways to RC but not the one we see in movies, shows, pop culture, and what not. I'm sure everybody has heard of the phrase "pinch me I'm dreaming". Doesn't that work? I don't think I really tried it before.

Well may I ask you. When you did the RC where you pinch your nose shut and tried to breath through it. Did you actually remember failing to do so and being inable to breathe ( Just like in waking life ) Or did you just simply not remember or did you just think ''it all seems normal'' ?

Because in dreams you are VERY VERY stubborn you see. and very easily distracted to flow along with the dream losing lucidity. I have had alot of LDs where I was only very slightly lucid and some JUST not Lucid dreams where it dawned on me that I MIGHT be dreaming and then I got distracted again and went along with the normal course of the dream.

BTW Isn't this Topic supposed to be in the Lucid Experiences Board?

I'm usually very concerned with staying still to and not moving a muscle - this is kind of encouraging haha I remember that for when I try a WILD tonight.

Yeah, I could have sworn that I pinched it hard and could not breathe through it. But, I'm not sure how much I was concentrating on it and I did it rather fast, much like I've been doing it (incorrectly,) in real life.

I don't think I was lucid but I knew that I had just been trying to WILD and that I *might* be dreaming. After the failed RCs though, I thought I was awake.

Yeah, I guess it could go in either. Mods feel free to move this if necessary.

I read somewhere (maybe in LaBerge's book,) that the pinching yourself RC does not actually work. The ones that have definitely worked for me are the finger through the palm and reading a digital clock.

1st quote-. (don't know how to quote so i'll just put them in numbers) -
Did you believe you could do so? You have to absolutley believe (it's much harder in a FA but possible),

2nd quote- 1st sentence kind of reinforces what I just said.

3rd quote- Nah, WILDing is attaining lucidity

4th quote- In your dreams, you get hurt in your dreams, that is why it doesn't work (just like asking for a banana milkshake , it tastes great in dreams but you are not tasting anything at all, except maybe your pillow

Hope this post helped - Stoat

First WILD on 6th of August, 2006!
