i usually feel my fingers get numb and then i cant move them. if i could stay awake long enough my legs and feet start to get numb. at this point know matter how i try i fall asleep. [/b]
the next time your fingers (or any extremity) becomes numb, focus your undivided awareness on the sensation. fully feel it.
----
them, slowly try to move the numbness.
e.g. move the sensation up to your elbow, and back down to your hand.
or try to spread it.
e.g. spread the sensation until it covers from fingertip to elbow.
---
this sounds complicated, but it really isn't. your body is fully paralyzed by SP every night. it is less a matter of force, and more a matter of receptivity. imagine the SP in, say, your hand, as a stream at the summit of a mountain. the rest of your body is all downhill, and naturally in the path of the stream.
however there are manmade blockades which are built up above the peak of the mountain, and block the water instead of allowing it to flow naturally.
when you learn to move/spread SP, you musn't think of it as an act of force (e.g. trying to "push" the stream OVER the blockades of tension).
rather, an act of receptivity. (e.g. allowing the blockades to slowly and gently disintegrate and allow the water to flow its natural course)
it sounds like you just need to learn how to fully relax your body before the tides of SP.
----
with some practice, you will soon find your entire body fully in SP.
this is happening already anyways (which is why you fall asleep)...you just aren't conscious QUITE long enough to be aware of it.
----
once you learn to experience SP fully (and with practice, it can literally be an instantaneous surrender)
the following technique helped me, so i will share it.
1. surrender to the SP.
2. when fully awash in SP, calm your mind completely.
3. slowly say "i am lucid dreaming" (if any distracting though or emotion arises, release it like a helium balloon and forget about it completely)
4.then for two or three seconds make sure your entire body is still relaxed and surrendered to the natural, completely safe process of sleep paralysis...if it isn't, calmly relax any tense areas (often the face muscles, as there are so many of them). do not overthink while doing this.
4. repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are in a lucid dream.
--------
i will be truthful...it took a fair amount of effort and trial and error to learn how to WILD.
but it sounds like you are well on your way. you just need to learn how to maintain the right sort of "passive awareness" to make the last transition without falling asleep.
keep trying...you are SO close!!
good luck.
