Strange things with the hypnagogic imagery...

I wasn't completely trying a WILD by the books last night, but my own little variation. I started relaxing and stuff, while saying things to myself like "go from waking to lucid" and other variations. After a while my legs went numb, and then my arms, then my back (sharp 'points' and scratches were felt) but I tried to focus on the imagery. The times I got really into it were cut short by the numbing feeling, so I didn't really get anywhere with it. Sure I got a few images in my head but they were like a collage, all pasted together, fading away the moment they came. This went on, but I was persistant. I geuss my body became too tired after a while, and I just fell asleep. I only remember one dream from that night, and it was definately not lucid.

      Any suggestions/comments?

Heh, that pretty much sums of 99% of all my attempted WILDs, I can never get farther than the numbness in my legs and lower back. Also, I've noticed that when I try to convince myself that I will have a lucid dream, I always wake up the next morning barely remembering a thing.

That's exactly what happened to me. I couldn't remember anything, except for a few brief images.

I think I know what you're talking about.

Sometimes, I try things similar to WILD. As I drift to sleep, I try to keep myself conscious at the same time. But, I often see the images after 10 minutes, but wake up abruptly after that because it got so exciting. Thus, I broke the process! I was also doubting if I would have stayed conscious while drifting off. I know now why WILD's may take lots of practice.
