...you layed in bed at night and said, "I am dreaming." to yourself untill you fell asleep?

I think that maybe if you're focused on it enough, maybe it would either:

-have the same effect as FILD

      or

-as soon as you began to dream, you would realize it.

      What does everyone think?

Actually, what Dreamerer is describing is called autosuggestion. Of course, the MILD technique comes forth from this helpful little trick. The difference being that MILD is normally used after about 6 hours of sleep (when going to sleep again) and involves trying to return to the dream you woke up from (only this time, you immediately gain lucidity).

The effects of autosuggestion are definitly present. By telling yourself you're going to have a lucid dream, you're keeping your mind on it. This does not guarantee succes (at all), but the mere fact that you're thinking about realizing that you're dreaming right before falling asleep, will set your mind to it.
      A dream
is a reality that others cannot see.
      Reality
is a dream you share with others.
