      Blinking at a Reality Test.

I wonder, that since your eyes are closed while dreaming, can you blink your eyes while dreaming?

I'm going to incorporate this into my repertoire of RT's. I figured that it has 2 effects as an RT...1: Blinking might not be possible in the dream...and 2: Even if it was possible, holding my eyes closed and then opening them may change the scenery.

I especially want to ask the good lucid dreamers, have you tried this?

I've never tried that. I know that when I shut my eyes in a lucid dream that is will cause it to fade on me.

Sounds like a worthwhile experiment, I can't remember hearing of anyone trying this.

I never really thought about blinking, thanks for brining it to my attention.

When I closed my eyes one time in a dream so I could go somewhere else (I did it because one of you told me to visualize where I wanted to be) I'm pretty sure that the dream faded and I think that I could feel my eyelids open before anything else. That might have been another dream though it was really cool.

Hrm, usually a person blinks as a reaction to stimuli (being external influences, or needing to lubricate the eye, or get something out)
In the dream world, i don't think anyone has recorded having problems with their eyes, Eye sight seems to be a big problem, blurryness i mean. But not directly related to the eyes...
Come to think of it, when i fly, i don't 'feel' the wind, but i 'know' its their from my memory of it in the waking life...seems like an ambient wind, perhaps...?

I don't blink during dreams. I'm pretty sure of this. It would make an ok reality check though not very practical.

Chances are you are more likely to notice that you are flying rather then you are not blinking.

We could always try blinking Keeping one eye shut and see if it screws with your peripheral vision. Would you have peripheral vision since your mind alreadyknows what is there? or what you see next determines the next thing you see?

What is up with people that sleep with their eyes open??????

That's a really intresting proposal Howetzer.

Would you still be able to 'see' if you closed your eyes in a dream? I bet you could if you believe that you can...

OMG I just remembered! I was injuried and pretending to be dead during a war dream I had. I closed my eyes in the dream but I remember clearly that I could still see what was going on with the enemy.

I think we need to do more experiments regarding the eye in dreams, intresting topic.

Hmmm, higher chances of flying than blinking!?

If that's true, then that's good news.

It's just that whenever I get the sensation to try a reality test, I figured blinking is a faster way than finding text or something. Even if I manage to blink in the dream, chances are that something will change...like wasup said.

Does it not seem that every thought brought up during Lucid dreaming is only confined by our own mind. IF YOU BELIEE IT. like you said.

I don't think just blinking would do anything at all. If you closed your eyes for 4 or 5 seconds and thought of a place you want to be, that might work however.

I've had very few lucid dreams, only one with full lucidity. But I clearly remember that in that one, I wanted to test the finger through the hand RT, so I could know what it's like to use it in reality. Becuase it was a reflex, I closed my eyes and looked away while I stuck my finger through my palm. I did this twice, and but times, wehn I opened my eyes - nothing had changed except my finger was stuck in my hand.
I am of the belief that right now I am dreaming, and that you are all characters, therefore if you don't please me I'll just zap you to the cornfield like that little boy from the Twilight Zone. Or maybe I'm a Schitzo.

      Closing eyes experience:

This saturday I entered a WILD from my visualization technique.

I was seeing myself racing a car with my buddy. somehow cars turned into bicycles, and we were riding them. I was pedaling furiously, and started to feel "true WILD" symptoms.

I let go of the visualization and could feel myself laying on the bed (or dream bed). My field of vision shrinked to about the size of a baseball.

Image was blurry, so I *closed* my dream eyes, intending to clarify the picture.
With my eyes closed, I could see white screen in front of me(kinda like a word or notepad). It was still a size of a baseball.
There was a line of text, flashing there.
it said something like (exact same format) : [/a] Closing your eyes causes dream to fade [/na] or [/a] Cannot visualize with closed eyes [/na]
it was some kind of a mix between this two phrases.

So I *opened* my dream eyes and desperately said "I want to have a LD about my previous visualization".

White screen was still there. This time it said [/a] Loading bicycle race .... [/3] [/4] then it said [/complete], but I woke up....

This experience was weird as hell...
