I believe if I could get past the fear of the unknown I would have a lucid dream. As a matter of fact, the other night, I realized I was dreaming. Ahead of me in this dream was a room and all I had to do was step into it and I would be in a lucid dream. I couldn't let myself step into it! I woke myself up.

Has anyone else had fear prevent them from experienceing a lucid dream?

      How to overcome this fear?

      Why do you think so?

dream is just a hallucination which is showed by your imagination

you can take power in LD

if it's so dark, light up the setting

nothing can hurt you (like ghost)

      first, try reality check

      and just do it

      walk as usual

try to fly, talk with dream citizens / enjoy unrealistic activities

i can't under stand you. why are you so frightened?

i've seen no one like you. don't be afraid of the dream world. you're the god in LD.

thats quite an interesting concept of being to scared to ld, possibly it may be different for different people, i mean ive ld but i cant an more, its a very strange thing and probably has something to do with your subconscious, but probably fear could hold you back, mabye after reading something like this is where the fear startedhttp://www.dreamviews.com/forum/index.php?...c=39192&hl=
like when i was younger i watched a news report on roller coasters, it got stuck upside down and people died i have been terrified of them ever since, but recently i went on my first rollercoaster, quite fun and peeing pant (not really) at the same time

is life a predetemined path, do we control our own destiny's or is there something out there greater than all of us? perhaps dreams are insight into our minds, perhaps they are random thoughts, it keeps me up at night.

Fear of the unknown is humanuty's oldest fear. It's what gave rise to mythology, religious cults, much stress and many problems all together. It's not something to be underestimated but lucky are those that don't experience it.

Neither have I. You just have to understand what dreams are.

My emotions in lucid dreams have run the full spectrum that they do in non-lucid dreams; including fear, which may sound irrational when discussing it while awake, but is very intense and real, like a nightmare, while you are dreaming. I often don't have a lot of control in LD's, so I may be trapped in a dark room or something and not be able to do anything about it. Maybe people who have good control all the time don't understand, but that is not how it is for me.

However, octoberchild, I think that being lucid is always better than not being lucid, even in a scary dream. For one thing, it is easy to wake yourself up while lucid. For another, there is a chance that you may be able to change the dream. You can try at least. It is always good practice I think. So I would go for it if it is only fear that is holding you back.

      Good luck.

Based on my responses, I'm hearing...

      Good summary I think it's spot-on.

You can be as boring as or wild as you want in an LD. If you want to sit there and weave a basket the whole time - well, do it! You can do whatever your little heart desires - that's the whole point. Next time you're lucid, just try to calm yourself down, lean against a wall and take a couple breaths. Know that you are in control of everything. Then just walk around your environment and observe everything - look at all the detail. You can even wake yourself back up if you wanted to (though I wouldn't recommend it! )

This is a good opportunity to conquer the 'fear of fear itself.' Don't worry, you'll get used to the sensation with practice. I've got faith in you!

I definitely feel like fear is keeping me from having longer lucid dreams. My first experience related to lucid dreaming was waking up from a nap and not being able to open my eyes or move my body even though I knew exactly where I was. The room felt like it was vibrating and I could "see" the room I was in and the fan above my head even though my eyes were closed. That was about a year ago and now whenever I feel that same vibration I know what's coming next. The problem is, I was so scared the first time it happened that I freak out when it happens now. I'm trying to make myself relax but I can't keep my body from getting too worked up and wanting to wake me up.
