Hi...today I spent the whole day doing the hand RCs which included both hands alternately at random, checking if all 5 fingers are there and the colour of the skin....easily done 20 over. I feel mentally tired and cloudy after doing so many, does this happen to U guys?or am I just pushing myself too hard, I also read that the recomended number of RCs per day is 12 but I got carried away by my sheer enthusiasm...LOL.

happens to me as well. I get sick of doing them. But i keep doing it for the reward at the end.

It goes in cycles, I get really excited after a lucid... then after a while i slow down with it then have another lucid dream. and it all starts over again.

Yeah I admit I jump from method to method and come back to the same one after I've exhausted the 'new' ideas but this time I'm gonna stick to it...the hand RC which did work in the past. I have instead of counting the fingers one by one which is very 'tiring' I do it by grouping the last 3 fingers as one and then just count the thumb and the other finger beside it, after sometime I don't even need to count, just know by looking...it's much faster and less 'tiring' so I can prolong doing it and still retain it's purpose...

Everyone's different, but I personally don't think doing that many RCs. I find that you start to automatically answer yourself with "no, I'm not dreaming," instead of really thinking about it and challenging your reality.

I only do RCs when something happens in real life that happens to be a dreamsign of mine. Like I always misdial telephones and have trouble operating them when I'm dreaming. So when I misdial a phone in real life, I do a RC (my fav is comparing a wall clock w/ my wrist watch).

By only using the RC in conjunction with a common dreamsign of yours, you increase the probability that you will check in a dream.

Quality over Quantity - in my opinion, though some will disagree, that's what works best for me - and that's what you have to do - find what works best for you too.

I disagree completely. I do very low quality RC's all the time. But i do lots of them. And I've gone lucid twice by doing tiny quick RC's in dreams in the last 3 days.

That's what's great about LDing - there are so many different ways of attaining that work, because everyone's different.

I think your lifestyle really plays a big role on how you go about doing RCs. With me, working at a veterinary hospital and being insanely busy all the time, I can't stop and randomly think about whether I'm dreaming or not, especially if I'm assisting in surgery, drawing blood, talking to clients, etc. So I only do RCs when it applies to a common dreamsign of mine - this technique works wonders for me and has gotten me lucid countless times.

To each his own - find what works for you and go with it.

My dreamsign happens to be lightbulbs and lighting because it is also my hobby but as U know they are everywhere so it's like I will be doing RCs everytime I see a light then it's no different than doing an RC at will because U purposely look for a light to do an RC, it's too common and I feel it loses it's meaning. I think I will have to choose back the horse dreamsign but it's rare to see it in dreams...

For sure. Its cool always hearing new things and new ways of going lucid. One thing that works for one person might not work at all for another.

I used to RC daily, but I stopped after a while because it got tedious. In most of my LDs I just initiate an RC for like no reason and become lucid. Last night was a perfect example in my dream journal. Basically, as the dream started I just went "I'm gonna check my reality," and started poking my hand until my finger went through and I confirmed that I was indeed dreaming.

so in your dream, when you poke your finger through your hand, how does it go through? is there resistance? or does it just go through like your hand isnt even there? Man if and when i do an RC in a dream and become lucid, i KNOW im gonna be freaked out and get too excited haha.

this is crazy, this whole ld shit
      am i dreaming?

Well the first few times I tapped it, it felt normal and I could feel it poking my hand. Then all of a sudden it just went through like my hand wasn't there at all. No resistance, or anything like that. :3

Just remember not to close your eyes in an LD... I've made that mistake a few times.

I find that in dreams it's the reverse...if U do RCs in reality U won't do them in dreams. Same as dreaming of something U don't have or will never do in reality. I've had a couple of LDs caused by the hand RCs in the past and I din't even do any RCs except a few times weeks before. But I think by doing RCs everyday the barrier of not doing them in dreams can be broken like we carry the fact that we are walking in dreams because we've been walking for years.

A lot of people (like me) will really wake up when they close their eyes. It's annoying.

I was unaware there was a reccomended amount of RCs , but I think you may still have gotten carried away. When I was RCing a lot I did at least that much if not more, but eventualy it did get tiring. I think a good solution to this is to change up your RCs every once in a while. Don't just do hand RCs. Try the Nose Rc, or the text RC, Clock RC, etc. Spice it up a bit doing different RCs every time so you don't get weary of it.

I will try that..THANKS . There are many clocks around the house, I will be getting another wall clock for my bedroom and a watch too I had a dream once that had them each telling different times, really weird but no LD.

IMJ and the others, why all of u stick to the fingers? For Christ sake, be creative! Pick sth that u really like or very much interested in and try to find it in your dream, trust me u will get the desired results in no time.

      Good luck,

LOL....I'm in the midst of 'implanting' a constant dreamsign by using WBTB method. It has worked so far but needs fine tuning, I also notice that the intention of having LDs follows the object in the dream but that depends on the mood .

I can get tired of looking at my hand all the time for example, but just change RC then and use another one.
After doing 5 hand, use 5 fly RC, then 5 light switch for example.

lol @ the 2 year old replies!

IMJ out of interest how are you getting on now with lucid dreaming and RCs? Do you do RCs at all? Are your lucids spontaneous?

I've recently taken a break from doing reality checks and thinking/living lucid dreaming ever since the negative effect of doing them during the day. I focused on the WBTB method instead....and had a lucid dream almost everynight I used it. No I don't get lucid spontaniously...I get them by using MILD. I program my lucid dream the way I want it, includes the RC and when it is used and what to do when I'm lucid but as of now...are too short to do anything...
