Unhappy

Hey all I decided to do a lil experiment whilst I was having my usual bath I dipped my head under the water not all half the head so I can still breath so just mostly up to my ears was underwater and it was almost was exactly like how I experience my dreams so I decided to try my lame Reality check (clicking fingers to see if it goes on fire idea inspired by johnny storm from the fantastic four movie) and I can barely hear or feel a thing which is probably why I aint having that much success on becoming lucid
so I was wondering if any one can give me some ideas for reality checks or give me a list/link to where I might find some idea's? Thx

P.s. I just had a curious thought once obtained lucidity is it possible to like program you self so that in the real world all you have to say is one special word that's unique and only you would know that'll make you instantly into a deep sleep so you can again go lucid? oor is this unwise to do so? I was just intrigued by the idea on having a magic word to make you instant lucid

Hello,

A 'reality check' is a test that you do to ascertain whether you are awake or in a dream. When you are fully awake and alert, and when you

1. turn around to look at the color of the curtain behind you,
2. now look ahead,
3. then again turn around to look at the color of the curtain behind you,

the color will remain the same. If you attempt this experiment when you are dreaming, the color will be different.

The most interesting part here is: the fact of doing an experiment entered your mind, and you actually conducted this experiment, shows that you are lucidly dreaming!

Once you enter REM sleep, unless a thought is so strong that it immediately manifests itself as a dream sequence, in the initial stage you may not see what you may have predetermined. Also, if you are still new to the game, don't insist on any one reality-check-device. Just be alert of the possibility that you may be dreaming; and this alertness itself will guide you to work out an appropriate trick on the spur of the moment.

Your point about a "word-hook" that, when you utter during your waking hours, will instantly shift you to a sleeping state, and then onward into a lucid-dreaming state, is actually in the realm of self-hypnosis. It _is_ possible, though I would recommend that you take one step at a time!

Cheers,
Sanjay.

Hey, for me I use a mixture of four reality checks that work quite good for me.
1).Study my hands and think is this a dream and is anything different.
2).Look at the time then look away and think of it as something else like 11:11 look back to see what it is. I do this about 3 times in a row, and also do it with text.
3).Hold my nose with my fingers and try to breath through it.
4).Think back to what I was just doing and what I was doing before that.
I also always look out for strange things that happen through out the day or strong emotions usually the felling of being pissed off over something.
Also peg reality checks to your dream signs.

Hello flight,

They are very good reality checks.

At the same time, I would recommend you to keep devising creative reality checks on the spur of the moment. Many a time, while dreaming lucidly, the thought to perform a "particular" reality check may not cross the mind at all. What could be more important is the constant awareness in the background that you have to confirm that you are dreaming. In the initial stages, I used to simply have this thought - "Bah! This is just a dream", and this would immediately make me take control of the script from there on.

My two pence.

Cheers,
Sanjay.

Thanks Sanjay, I'm working on keeping my awareness in the background of my mind a lot more, and being in the moment, thanks.
