Two or three times, I have told somebody all about lucid dreaming, including how cool it is, what reality checks are, different methods that people use, etc., everything I can think of. I also told them that they may have a lucid dream just from me telling them about it. The last time I did this, I also said that I myself may have a lucid dream due to talking about it. Well I don't know if I have caused anybody to have a lucid this way, but I have caused myself to have one.

So if you can get somebody to listen to you, tell them all about it. I have done this early in the day, and become lucid that night, so it doesn't necessarily have to be right before bed to work.

Try it and see if it works. If it does, post your results.

I was thinking about this on my drive in.

I've read that one of the "purposes" of sleep is to assimilate all of the information and experience of our day.

If a significant event of the day is a great conversation about lucid dreaming, then that is going to be a big piece of the information being assimilated - meaning that it will quite naturally come to your attention during that phase of sleep!

This makes a LOT of sense. Does it have to be a verbal conversation?

I was having a lot more LDs when it was novel and I was more engaged here and elsewhere reading and learning and discussing. Maybe this is why twice now people I have told about LDing have had one spontaneously just from having talked about it with me.

I think you may have hit on something powerful here. Imagine if you were to give a presentation about LD - all the preparation, the impact of speaking in public... I'll bet that would GUARANTEE an LD the night after you did it!

LaBerge's life's work has been LD. He claims to have four per night. Coincidence?

I don't think so; I think when I first came to DV I was really excited about LD and talking about it helped me become lucid. Like you say, when it was new and I read DV it really seemed to help, now that I have let it become more mudane it is not working as well.

I'm getting nervous just thinking about it! That is an excellent idea, actually getting better at public speaking was (well is if I ever get better control) one of my lucid goals. I would probably have LD's before hand, when I was nervous tho. That would be an interesting experiment. Who would be a good audience....I always thought LD would be good for prisoners, maybe at a penetentiary?

One of the people I told about it who had one the same night is in the pen. I thought it was a great idea... he's not so enthusiastic after having one without trying.

I think the crux of this is that it gets you to think about lucid dreaming during the day. You could probably experience the same results by stopping to think about it every now and again. The fact that lots of us spend time discussing LDing here on DV probably helps us anyway!

Yeah, a lot of my friends are interested in lucid dreaming too. Some even experienced a lucid dream shortly after. When I talk and teach people about lucid dreaming, I usually get a lucid dream that same day, or the day after it. (The subconscious mind is very tricky. )
      Sure, why not?

He didn't have a lot of control and ended up in some frightening situations.

I sent him LaBerge's book afterward... don't think he ever read it or pursued it beyond that first one though. He'd had enough.
