I've read about this a few times. However, I didn't find the answers I was looking for. Often, when I'm lying in my bed for a couple of minutes, I can hear a ringing/buzzing/zinging sound in my ears. When I try to concentrate on it, it gets louder. I've heard that you can use this in order to attain SP.

Also, sometimes when my mind is drifting away (to sleep), my conscience snaps back in an instant, causing a big buzz/bang all a sudden. I don't really know what this means, though. I've experienced it a couple of times today.

I was wondering how I could use the sounds in order to perform a WILD? If this is even possible. Some people claimed that it was possible.

Yeah, I know EXACTLY what your talking about. Sometimes that gets so loud that its almost unbearable. However I could not imagine this actually helping you WILD. Its not a very relaxing noise afterall...

Well, the sound itself may not be relaxing, but it only seems to occur when you're relaxed. :/

Here's an excerpt from the Wikibook on lucid dreaming on the tinnitus LD induction technique:

Sound Technique

This method might suit certain people, but not others. The idea is pretty much the same as the other WILD methods, which is to remain conscious while entering the dream state. In order to use this method, you must sleep in a perfectly quiet place. You need that to hear the tinnitus, which is the inner sound buzzing inside your ears. Lay down and relax as much as possible while trying to hear the sound. This method is best combined with the WBTB technique. When you are too tired, you will usually fall asleep too fast and it is difficult to remain conscious. By the time you realize that, the buzzing sound will increase in intensity. This might frighten newcomers, but be assured nothing bad is going to happen. No, you will not be deaf when you wake up; it's perfectly safe! It is just an effect caused by your brain trying to change mode, from listening to the ambient sound to listening to the sound of dreamland, which is not real sound but just electrical charge inputed to the part of the brain to create a sensation of hearing. By that time, you will enter the hypnagogic state. All you need to do is concentrate; do not be afraid or think of anything, just be still, and in time your dream body will float, separating from your physical body, and there you go, you arrive in the dreamland.[/b]

Perfect, thanks! I know exactly what you mean. I get the sound when I'm imaging myself in a dream (during WBTB). And also, it gets louder and louder and I get "dream feeling" soon too! Unfortunately, I get sick of laying without any movement so I just need to move and all it's gone! Duh!

I didn't even get to the dream feeling yet, so you're ahead of me. Oh well, if you keep it up, you'll find a way to get to the dream. I'm going to try it too.

Btw, thanks for the info.

Thumbs down

I have only had ringing in my ears when I'm waking up from a LD.
It gets louder and louder till I wake up.

I always have a very slight ringing (or fuzzy sound) in my ears.
It's never absolutly quiet, I think this is normal though.

I never thought about concentrating on it to get to SP I shall give it a try!

Wish I woulda known that shit last night...

I ended up bein' up all night tryin' to WILD, and at the point I was closest, I was stuck in the same stage for literally like an hour...

I kept hearin' that sound, and it DID occur to me to focus on it, but I didn't think it would be worth the effort.

shitteh deal.

Yeah, tinnitus (ear ringing) is definitely tied to a transition into the dream world. Just earlier when I was attempting a WILD, I could hear the tinnitus very strongly, but I accidently opened my eyes for a split second and then the tinnitus was gone. Never heard it again for the whole attempt, even though I laid there for an additional 30 mins or so. I must've been close to WILDing since the tinnitus was so loud and present before I mucked it up.

Yeah, the deeper you get, the louder it gets, I think.

I get it... and it sits there at the same level forever... no matter how much I focus on it, or no matter how much I blank out my mind...

It doesn't go away, nor does it get louder..

I did it this morning... and it just kept... BEING there, but I wouldn't transition into the dream...

Eventually (after like half hour) I got frustrated because of the stupid cars driving by and distracting me, and woke up permanently.

That's another problem I have.... Cars ALWAYS drive by right as I'm reaching a pinnacle.... >

I tried focusing on it before going to bed. I managed to make it louder, just a little, though. After a while I started getting random thoughts, and when I started seeing weird things, I suddenly came back to conscience, and there was a sudden buzz which added to the noise in my head. After a second the buzz was gone, though, but the noise in my head was louder than it was before. I think this was heading to a WILD?

I Did this last night to get to sleep. I Press both of my ears shut, and focused on the ringing for 10 - 15 minutes, once I was done, I turned over and went right to sleep.

I don't know if this is right, but I've heard that that sound is the result of the nervous system working. I dunno.

I'll have to try that listening technique sometime.

I get the sound every single time that I think about it when I go to sleep. Focusing on this sound while attempting to WILD will increase the ease of it comming (Lots of stuff going on in this thread, got confused about what's true and what's speculation)?

Funny thing THIS was exactly what I thought about yesterday when I was going to sleep. I always have a small ringing noise in my ears when I go to sleep and when I think of it it intensifies, but it's rather annoying though... The thought crossed my mind that this might help for WILDing... But I'm gonna try the breathing technique before this one
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

This is a bit OT , but anyways , I think there is a mayan prophecy that says that is the sound of silence , and it becomes louder as time goes by , it also says that in the final days the sound will be so unbearable that men will become crazy and they will start the destruction of the planet ... I dunno , just thought I'd share .

I remember having this more when I was a kid...

After a lot of noise, like a loud conversation, I'd leave and the silence would ring in my ears,
I use to think that "the gears in my head were moving", lol.
The sound of the absence of noise is a pretty weird one...

This happened to me last night.
It was way to intense for me. Felt like it was ringing behind my brain if that makes sense.

I lay there for hours but couldn't make the transition.

I've never had that before but now I know others have it when sober I will try and focus on it tonight.

I almost made it into a dream, by focusing on this sound. I get this sound all the time, I can hear it right now, very lightly though, maybe I have a high tinnitus rate? lol.

Tried it again last night, I could hear it very faintly but couldn't get a good lock on it.

every time I thought it was getting louder something happened to distract me.

Same happened here, my sisters hamster kept running in its wheel next door, I could hear it faintly, but if you concentrate on just the sound, it gets so loud its insane. soon I felt like I didn't have any arms or a left leg, but im sure if I would of tried to go farther I would of went into a total SP and soon HI would fully take over.

Just takes time I guess, and lots of practice, from what I see focus is the key.
