Hi, everyone. I've been practising WILD for the past little while, and I think I may be having near-success, but there seems to be a certain something that is hindering my progress. When I go to WILD (after 5-6 hours of sleep, or sometimes in the afternoon), I can easily become relaxed and begin to see HI, and my body also becomes very numb and still. But, when a transition to the dream world seems imminent, my heartbeat always rises (automatically, it seems), and this usually always results on me paying attention to my rising heartbeat, and thus failing the transition.

It might just be the excitement of the unknown, but I can't seem to relieve myself of this rather irritating roadblock. Any ideas on how to calm my nerves enough to avoid this? I think I'm close to transition.

Wow same thing happends with my heartbeat when I try to do a WILD. Sorry I can't be of much help as I don't know what to do either, but would be interested if anyone knows. It's funny I am real relaxed but my heart is racing, it's kind of weird and the closest feeling I can relate it to is when scared and not moving. Don't know if I am really that scared, but maybe I am because I have never done a full WILD and don't know what to expect. Is that the same as you, have you done a successful WILD before? Or would you be scared from a visit from the hag. I think I might be a little scared if the hag visited me, even though I know it would be just in my mind. What do you think?
EDIT - I'm not suggesting your scared, because like you said it could easily be excitement.

Well I'm glad to see someone shares my dilemma. No, I haven't been successful with WILD yet, and I do agree that you and I probably have the exact same problem. I've never had serious HI (hypnagogic imagery) yet either, so maybe I'm partially scared of experiencing that as well. I would expect that we both need to become more relaxed, more consciously detatched, or something along those lines. I don't know, I'm rather relaxed right up until what appears to be the transition point, when my heart starts racing. So hopefully someone can give us both some advice.

Looks like im stuck with you guys to.

I've done a WILD once where I actually saw a man sitting down talking to me (couldn't hear him) in full color, it was like I was right there, but my heart started racing so face he faded away and I didn't make it.

I don't think theres going to be anything to clam us down, we just need to try and try until finally we get into a dream, and once that is done, next time around we might not get so excited.

I guess its a bumpy road in the beggining...

guys, we're all in the same boat, except heres what I do with the racing heartrate...

its not your fault, im pretty sure its just another step closer to the dream world, and the onset of SP and what have you. Welcome it. Just passively recognize that the racing heartrate is one step closer, and then be aware of whats happening, but not over-aware. just act like its no big deal, and wait for the next thing to happen.
