Okay, I'm going to start with some background, so If you feel like getting "straight to the goods" then just skip this part.

The whole idea started when I looked back at my WILDing history. Not very impressive. I usually just gave up or fell asleep. Except for one time when I decided to do it in the back of my friends car as we were driving a long way home. Now, it seemed odd to me that my best WILD was accomplished in an uncomfortable position, with noise from the radio and the car. So what was the factor that helped me WILD? Of course! I was listining to my iPod the whole way back. Now, I only have a few songs on my iPod (200ish), but I know almost all of them well enough to sing to them, and I think that's important. So after talking to my friend about his opinion that WILDs are easier with a nap, and having nothing better to do, I decided to go for it.

The time when I started my WILD attempt was 5:10. I was hungry, but confidant it would work. It was also pretty bright out. I laid down on my bed with my music on shuffle. For the first few songs Nothing was happining. But after 10-15 songs I started to feel the onset of SP. My limbs were numb, and felt like they were merging. Now I started to get some HI, but because I could just focus on the music, it never lasted long and never pulled away at my focus like with other techniques. So after awhile I ceased to get HI. Now at about 25 songs in the numbness had moved to cover my arms, my legs, my hips and torso, my chest, and my head. Especailly my hands. I felt really heavy. I started to get excited so I focused on the music rather than my body and it calmed me down. Now I started some reverse blinking and after maybe 10 blinks my eylids felt really heavy, but shot open like cannons when I blinked. So I stoped here. Now I entered SP. This was the least intense time entering SP I've ever had. I felt a small tug at my stomach, then I was in SP. No vibrations, no sounds, nothing. I could still hear the music, but now I was looking at the HI. Or the lack of it. It was as if my eyelids were 2D all this time, and now they had switched to 3D. I was in wrap-around grey. I could still feel my body, but I was in a void at the same time. Now I didn't want to risk rolling out of my body, so I fell down. I kind of relaxed my self down into my bed. I fell out of my body and out of the grey void, into a big fluffly mess. Kind of like a fluff ball pit. I was happy for acheiving WILD, but I didn't have time to do anything because at that time my sister woke me up for dinner. Unbeleavable. I was pretty angry, but I was also hungry and well rested so I got up and left. The time was 6:10. Well that was my WILD adventure. Pun intended.

The Technique:

Get some music you love, or like, whatever. Some music that you know fairly well. Put it at a comfortable volume.

Lie down and relax.

Focus on the music and try to sing along in your head.

If you see HI it doesn't matter, it won't help you much.

Once you get into SP, and feel that you can fall into a dream, find your own way in, because I have no idea. You can try what I did if you want, which was to fall backwards through my bed.

And that's all folks. My increadably long post.
I had a strange dream last night...

Whoa
Thats weird and cool
The other day i went to bed at like 6
and I woke up some time in the middle of the night
I put in my Ipod to put me back to sleep.
And it was kinda like that.
Only as I kinda started feeling the SP
I realized I had chapped lips.
So i drank a bunch of milk
Yeah, I'm Ryan

My first succesful WILD attempt happened when I was having a hard time going to sleep because of the guitar solo from Guns and Roses "Sweet Child of Mine" Good music can inspire awesome imaginary images anyway so your method makes sense.

Tried it, I started to get SP much faster than usual, I like it, the music keeps me focused. Didn't work though because of the damn itching problem. I wish just once I could try WILD without getting itchy in 19 different spots every 10 seconds. >.<

Well I spent the night at my friends house
And I was tired so I went to bed at 11:30
But I couldn't fall asleep
Then someone kept calling his house
And I was the only one up so I answered
They asked if this was the Sheriff's Department
I said no and hung up
So I went and laid down on a couch
I fell asleep after forever
I planned to wake up after a while and go back to sleep
Whatever that technique is called
But I didn't have to.
I started having this dream that I was at a mall
Fighting this guy.
And then I thought
I was just on that dreamviews website.
And then I started thinking about it.
So then I decided that because the picture clarity was realistic
I must be dreaming.
So I walked around a lot.
Then I decided to try to blow up the mall with my mind
But I couldn't
Then I kept walking around.
Then it just kinda slipped away and I woke up.
But yeah.
I tried to fall asleep listening to music in the first place.
I couldn't do it.
I tried falling back to sleep listening to music.
Couldn't do it again.
It's kinda gay.
Word.
Yeah, I'm Ryan

This is a really interesting idea! I've tried many times to totally relax, shut off the monkey in my mind, and blank out...but the dang music in my head always starts over.

Maybe it would be good to just go with it and use it as a focus...

interresting. I've tried this before, but not as seriously as you have.
I might put my MP3 player on tonight while falling asleep. I'll drag some interresting songs into my MP3 player's maps to inspire Dream Imagination and catch my attention extra tight.

I think songs that are full of Dream or Dreamrelated Lyrics will do well. Like ''Dreaming'' from System of a Down and alot of their songs.

I wrote something similar about this earlier today, but I haven't been here for a while and missed this thread. Instead of my writing going completely to waste I will post it HERE, thanks.

LUCID DREAMING METHOD I USE WITH QUICK RESULTS - by theyearthreethousand.

NOTE: I am a 'average' lucid dreamer who has varying results during the night. I am not particularly spiritual, and I do not practice meditation etc. Sometimes I do have sleeping problems, and I have excellent physical and mental stamina when it comes to staying awake for long periods of time. I work hard.
I just thought I would mention these points so you have a better understanding about my situation.

_________________________

Whether you are new or experienced with this lucid dreaming technique is unimportant, but I would recommend it with confidence to new dreamers who are struggling getting that first lucid dream. I have been there myself, and maybe - this information would have helped me out quite a bit when I first began.
It seems many new dreamers always try to go lucid during their normal sleeping routine, which is not abnormal, and is an obvious route to take. But I suggest a slightly different method which is less frustrating, and has quicker results:
_________________________

Whenever your body is around 70% (av.) tired (100% being ready for a full nights rest) simply sit in a comfy chair or bed (do not lie your head down), and put on some of your favourite relaxing music.

Make sure there are no other distractions.

If you are slightly tired like I suggested, but not fully ready to have a full rest for the night - you should (quite quickly to your surprise, maybe) doze off in a very light sleep.
I tend to use electronic music with no vocals (Aphex Twin if you must know) so I do not get distracted by following the lyrics. The choice is yours though, it doesn't necessarily have to be oceanic music.

In your light sleep, you will dream (I believe that we all dream every time we sleep anyway, it is only a question of what we remember when we wake) -
The music you are listening to, will transfer over into the dream world -
You will soon realise that you are dreaming, and your dream will be enhanced quite rapidly because of your awareness.

Your brain is very complex and intelligent, so do not be surprised if it takes you a while to figure out you a dreaming. Remember to look for signs as per usual.
One time I was trying this method, and in my dream world the music was playing from my laptop - just like it was in the real world. I was speaking to my friend about how amazing the particular song, and the whole album was - I then suggested him to change it to a certain track, it wasn't changing - so I said "Forget it, might as well let it play the whole way through, probably a stupid gli...tch." then it clicked that I was dreaming. Pretty clever, hey?
Other times the music was just in the background, not disturbing me.

You may be be awoken by the excitement at first, but the joy of this method is that if you awake, you will still be relaxed enough to fall quickly back a sleep. I must of had 6-8 short dreams in the space of 15 minutes, all of decent quality. Some of which lasted much longer in the dream world than the amount of time passed in reality. I even levitated in one dream (which I hadn't reached in my 'standard' night dreams before). This could be a way for your skills to quickly improve. I never wrote any of the dreams down, but I regret it. Next time I plan to have my Notepad open.

_________________________

This has become a regular method for me now, and it usually brightens my day up if I am feeling quite down. Yes, I agree it is extremely simple, but for me this method is just much more effective to get that buzz!

_________________________

I do believe that the tracks I have been using will get more effective the more I use them to fall asleep to - which is why I am trying to vary the tracks now. I don't want for them to work to well, and fall asleep suddenly whenever they are played around me. That would be disastrous.

I look forward to your questions!

-theyr3000

Hey what about a long sound effect / audio scenery recording? Like the sound of the ocean, or the forest? A place that you can imagine while you listen to?

Admittedly I haven't tried this much, but I've found Mogwai (post-rock) really helpful for sending me to sleep/inducing a lucid dream. What music would everyone else recommend?

I would reccomend whatever music you enjoy the most. If you want to listen to Mogwai then go ahead. I had some pretty intense stuff on my playlist, didn't seem to affect me negatively.

EDIT: Trying this with B6 tonight.

I listened the "preview" for Mogwai on iTunes....very interesting I like the music no lyrics, smooth rhythms ....I'm going to buy one! What album do youy listen to? Happy songs for happy people? That sounds like a good album.

Happy Songs for Happy People has been one of my favorite albums of all time for a long time now. I love Mogwai. I still think Hunted By a Freak is one of their best songs. I tried listening to music last night with a mix of Air, Amina, The Books, Sigur Ros, Flaming Lips, Mogwai, Radiohead, and some others and then at the end of the play list put that LD induction mp3 multiple times. I'm going to be honest. It was the worst sleep I have ever gotten in my life. It could be the length of my playlist as it was close to 4 hours. It couldve been the fact I only slept 6 hours. I will try it again tonight possiblywith just 10 songs or so and no LD induction.

I noticed certain songs brought out better hypnagogic imagery. Particularly "La Femme D'Argent" by Air which really made vibrant colors and pattersn very intense until I started seeing branches and leaves. When the song changed everything went to black and I feel asleep shortly after.

About The Books, which album would you recommend for a first time listener to The Books?

Music with dreams...

You might think I'm weird, but I listen to Nickelback. Everyday. For hours on end.

And at the beginning of September, Nickelback music wormed its way into my dreams!

Voila- whenever I listen to Nickelback I do a reality check!

Your technique sounds cool, and I'd love to try it, but I can't...

I would get Thought For Food. It's really cool and I think completely amazing. It blows my mind how they were able to texture sounds in such a musical way. The newest album is cool too, but its got more vocal work on it, which I think takes away from them.
