This depends on WHEN you see the HI. For example when I see HI when I first hit the bed at night it is bad. Sure, it is entertaining, and sometimes I may even look around it, but that means that I'm too aware and sometimes I start thinking about what i've just seen and it delays me from falling asleep even more.

Seeing HI in the middle of a night is good, but that's not always happening. It is not a requirement for WILD. In fact WILD just randomly hits you, there's no way of telling that you are gonna experience WILD. Leg numbness, losing the feelings in your arms, slight tingling and whatever else is just a sign of poor blood circulation resulting from poor sleeping position. Real WILD is undeniable - once it starts, you KNOW that you are entering WILD.

I have no idea what a clear light technique is.

And to give you an example - HI consists of distinct images or patterns that you see behind your eyelids. Something that is clearly distinct from the darkness around it. Most of the time you can only see it from the corner of your eyes and as soon as you shift to look at it, it disappears. Some advanced HI stays with you and you may look around the scene for a while. Dark reddish or purplish blobs/swirls are not good HI/not HI at all.
