Stand in a corner blindfolded so you can't see anything, and just stand there motionless with your arms by your side, ignoring anything that bothers you

Now you're just being silly. That wouldn't work.

I think that if you eat just one thing (make it something nutritious so you don't get a deficiency) you would get really sick of it and that would cause lucid dreams about food. When I go to bed hungry, I dream about food, so I think this will be a good dream sign. I'm going to try try this. Anytime I want to eat something yummy, instead of the nutritious but disgusting gruel I'll be living on, I'll tell myself to "eat it in a dream".

Anyone else want to do it with me? I'll start on Saturday (I've already got plans for Friday night.) I'll test it out for four weeks. I'll report periodically on how it's working.

Is anybody actually doing any of these other boring and/or torturous things? How are they working?

Yeah I guess your right moonbeam it proably wouldn't. Catching farts is a tricky buisness, many dangers on the journey. But honestly I agree. hmm I will try to think of something less impractical

OK, I'm starting today: Boring food incduced lucid dreaming. Anybody want to do it with me? We can have a contest: the winner is the first person to have a lucid dream that they recognize by eating something yummy in their dream. I guess you could pick your own method if you want and still be in the contest. I'm not sure how the other boring/torturous things are really supposed to work tho.

Some how I doubt I'll get any takers. That's OK, everyone will want to do it when I report back on how well it works. This will be my own patented method, I'll take all the credit for it. I'll write a book about it. That's how good it's going to work, you'll see.

-(If your female ) go to work without makeup.-

I don't really think this would be that torturous. Not only would you have to take time to apply it poperly, you also wouldn't have to worry about accidently having smudged your mascara all over your face without noticing it...! Goin to work without make up isn't torturous, if anything, it might make you a bit self-conscious, but nothing dramatic. xXx

Exclamation

Here's a few more boring or torturous things:

Turn the radio to a station thats only playing static and listen to it for hours on end.
Stand in the middle of the room w/ your arms raised. After 5 minutes this will become unbarable.
Count tiles/stucco/whatever on your ceiling.
Reread this list over and over again.

I want to know what your planning on doing! What is this research? ARe you going to tell us the results? Are you using any of this stuff?

Thanks for the idea. I think my plan is going to work.

hey!

I didn't intend to post anything about the technique until I try it myself but because you ask I will describe it.
I did try it once and I had a semi-lucid, but just one test is not enough to show anything.
Since I made the post I have done some searches in the archives and it turns out that people have already thought about this idea, and they called it Punishment Induced LD technique. The idea is that before going to bed you decide on a punishment that you will have to do in the morning if you didn't have a lucid or at least a semi-lucid dream.
The punishment will have to be something that will be of no benefit to you at all, even to your subconsciousness. For example cleaning the house wouldn't do because deep inside you know that it's good for you, so your subconsciousness will NOT want you to have an LD, so that you will have to clean the house... Anyway I don't know if this technique is a good idea because it might cause you to think about LD in a negative way, and even if it will be effective I'm not sure if having this negativity is a good thing.
But Moonbeam your idea is different, and if you do try it I hope you succeed.

Oh, your sort of doing "threat induced lucid dream"; I'm trying more "deprivation induced lucid dream." Well if mine doesn't work, I'll add some threats to myself.

Thanks; I hope yours works too and let us know.

Wow, you guys are pure evil Those are great.

This one isn't nearly as evil/gross, (well not gross at all), but pretty torturous. Take an already boring complicated book, and read it in reverse out loud from the back, pronouncing everything backwards ("this cat is orange" becomes "egnaro si tac siht").

Do push ups until you can't any more.
Look up the RGB value for every pixel on your computer screen. (at a given time obviously, since whenever you do anything th pixekls change.)

-Sit in a very Uncomfortable position. For a long long time.

-Keep your mouth open and don't swallow or lubricate your cheecks and tongue. Just let it dry out. You know the way you dry out when you sit in the dentist's chair with your mouth open for hours.

-Face yourself staring into your own eyes in a mirror for a Long long time. When it get's really boring and tiring; This means you haven't even spent 1/3d of the time you should keep doing this.

-Don't eat 1 entire day, but do this while you are constantly confronted with and staring at plenty of very tasty foods. However, at the end of the day, an hour before sleep DO eat something or it will also lead you to a sleepless night: something most of us cannot afford because they have work/school to attend.

-On a Day Drink lots and lots of Drinks. Tea, Beer...etc Anything that makes you gotta Pee really bad. But DON'T pee. Just save the Pee for later that day, untill it really starts hurting. Don't want you to damage your bladder off course.

How about that dodobird? Besides, can you let us in on what you're getting at with this technique? If I'm not mistaken these stressfull experiences make an impact on your Mind and are likely to return in your Dreams. Like boring, stressfull School and Work-days are a favourite Re-occuring Experience in Dreams. So can you tell us? If only a little, brief explanation.
