Was wondering if anyone has ever experimented with doing imagined reality checks.

My reasoning behind doing Imagined Reality Checks instead of actual reality checks, is that they might have a more direct and positive influence on the subconscious mind where dreams occur.

In doing Imagined Reality Checks I do them when I would normally do a normal reality check, whenever I change locations, and after asking myself if I am dreaming. I picture myself doing the reality check in my mind, and then picture it working and myself being in a lucid dream, instead of finding it not working like happens with actual reality checks.

Another option that can be used when doing the reality checks is to imagine a recurring theme that has occurred in your dreams that you feel you should have become lucid during, but didn't. During your imagined reality check, picture yourself realizing you are dreaming when this event occurs.

I find Imagined Reality Checks to be more fun that holding my nose every 20 mintues to see if I can breath. And they improve the ability to visualize. Plus no one knows what you're are doing, unless you get a far off look in your eyes from being too far into the visualizing.

I am thinking that imagined reality checks might have a much more positive influence on the subconsious mind and result in more lucid dreams, although I am still experiments. So far, so good, though.

That said, I would say that Imagined Reality Checks are not for everyone. If you are already having success with regular reality checks, continue to do them. Like the saying goes. If it's not broke, then don't fix it. But if you someone like me who the normal reality checks have never worked for, then this technique just might be for you. Like normal reality checks it will probably take 3 or 4 days for the suggestions to take effect although I began having results after the 2nd day.

Comments ? Suggestions ?

The idea behind the RC is for it to become complete routine so that you do them throughout the day and hope to get lucky and do one in a dream, and then pairing them with dream signs to increase the chances of this happening.

With that understood, if you can make an IRC to become routine like the traditional RC(s), then it would have the same effect.

However, I doubt that one could become lucid just by thinking of becoming lucid. Everyone would agree that you aren't at your most aware state when dreaming, taking the risk of thinking you are just thinking you are dreaming makes looking funny when you RC seem plausible, atleast to me. The finger-through-hand method is the least conspicous, my method of choice. =]

You are right on the money there. So often, reality checks just become habit for the people doing them. They don't put any serious effort into them.

When you do a reality check and it shows you awake, imaging what it would have been like if you had been asleep. How would the scene be different, how would you feel?

I like this idea a lot.

Perhaps a different twist would be an RC by trying to use a non-physical skill that is there in LDs... then following through with the visualization of my customer turning into a komquat.

(I sure hope none of my customers are LDers. Hey... I love you guys - really. I could have just as easily imagined a pile of dung, remember. I'll reserve that for "special" members of my extended family.)

Doing IRC in addition to normal RC might be good. but doing just IRC might be problematic. Because you will imagine for example doing the nose plug RC, and then you will imagine that you can breath through it, and then imagine become lucid in a dream and then continue your normal waking activities.
What might happen in a dream as a result of this practice, is that you will do the nose plug, you will be able to breath through it, and you will not become lucid and continue to treat the dream as reality because that what you are used to doing while awake.

So I'll recommend doing the IRC only as a supplement to RC. After the RC shows that you are awake, imagine how it would feel like if it showed you are dreaming.

It's an interesting idea, though very hypothetical. Please post your results
