I occasionally have nights where I am sleeping and Dreaming and then have these Brief awakenings during the night. I mean just barely awake. Just awake enough to realise I am awake and had been asleep and with the awareness of lying in my bed of darkened bedroom.'These brief awaknings are brief indeed cuz they usually last no more than a couple of seconds. Maybe not even 6 seconds most of the times.

After that awakening I'd usually have 6 minutes of low level waking consciousness and drop back asleep instantly.

I was thinking maybe there is a way to awaken yourself in the middle of the night. But not untill your Completely awake, but just ''awake'' enough to become aware of that you were sleeping( or better: ARE) and that your lying in bed. This is the fine line of Lucidity; Asleep and Dreaming yet only half awakened and consciously aware of the dream experience.

Now I was thinking of ways that wake people up slowly and gradually.
One thing that comes to Mind is: Light.
My bedroom's windows are facing east where the sun rises. Sometimes on early Summer mornings I am still asleep and heavily Dreaming while suddenly the Sun rises and starts shining through my window on my Closed eyelids. This would allmost allways wake me up very Gradually and gently, making myself more aware of lying in bed gradually and of the Dream that is fading before my eyes.

Well if you people can think of any ways you can wake up someone gradually, so that if you regulate it you may be able to wake someone up ''half way'' while leaving them in their dream: Pleasee post your Suggestions and ideas. I'll make a List of them.

-Gradually brightening Light (Sun, Dimmer-Lamp) or a number of Bright Light Flashes from Lamps above your Bed Regulated by a Programable time-switch. (Sounds hard but you can just buy these about anywhere. It goes into a socket and has a sort of clock around it with an Adjustable pin to set the timer)

-A Low not too penetrant Sound that Very Gradually Increases in Volume ( or perhaps suitable Ambient Music you love: That is more likely to Catch your Attention ) I recommend you to try: This Free Software It's Software that can play MP3s like an Alarmclock. The program allows you to select your own MP3 file to play as Alarm Signal and you can program it's Volume to Gradually increase.

      - help me find more ways.

      Citrus alarm clock...

Alarm clock that plays ANY music or audio file that you select, also Gradually increases volume from 0-100% in an amount of time you specify.

Yeah, it's a great program. It's what I use for an alarm clock for school. Really much much better than a regular alarm clock.

Also, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by waking yourself up "half-way." Do you mean like, WILD, where you wake up seeing hypnagognic imagery, or what? Basically, waking up is just part of having your senses perceiving too much (defense mechanism pretty much) or becoming rested enough. Also, you can choose to wake up if you have the intention. So any technique that does one of those things partially would work. Anything that gives just enough stimuli to partly wake you up. One thing is becoming too cold. Make it JUST cold enough to partly wake you up. Or have the intention to wake up just enough so your consciousness is "awake."

I use my cellphone alarm to wake up (with vibrate on), and have noticed that i almost always half wake up just from the sound of the vibration on my table, before the alarm has even sounded.

Tonight i will try setting a 'timer', with my phone on silent, after about 5 hours of sleep. This will result in just the vibration and no sound. I will try to wake up without moving my body, and if successful i may become lucid.

      I will post results.

I've tried leaving a window open and allowing Cold air into my room as I sleep there. It had worked back then to wake me up to a half consciousness and on the thin line between waking and sleeping, but I'd allways either drop off the line and back to sleep or I'd see my Dream Fade as I awaken gently.

I haven't tried this really extensively yet, but Springtime which is about to begin will be perfect: Sleeping with no Shirt, Warmer nights, Chilly mornings: This way the Morning Chill which usually comes at around 4/5 o' clock will partially awake you. eventually it'll completely wake up.

But think of a way opf trying to awake someone who's asleep and dreaming. you could poke him or her a couple of times. Unless they're REALLY very light sleepers, they will awaken only afte you have poked them about 4 to 5 times maybe? What if you poke someone only 2 times while they are in REM-sleep? Would they take note of that and become aware/awakeminded because of that external touch-signal while staying asleep and dreaming as well?

Something more like that. Only this you would have to be able to do to yourself to ''half awaken'' yourself. Think of more ways to awaken someone. Be Creative.
