Being tired in the first place definitely helps a lot. I try not to think about getting to sleep because this can make you stressed about it, one of my old school teachers once said that relaxing in bed is just about as good as sleep, that makes me not get stressed out over it. Also make sure your not to hot or to cold or your body will get uncomfortable and change positions a lot.
Progressive Relaxation can be good to get your body relaxed, just by starting at your feet, feel there weight then relax and feel them sink into your bed, some people like to tense them first then relax. Then go to your knees, thighs and so on.
You may want to do some deep breathing to relax you more and add some guided imagery with your breathing like your on a boat out in the warm, gentle ocean, sink down into the waves as you exhale feeling the ocean breezes on your face along with the warm sun and the amazing large mountains in the distance. Make up whatever you like and go along with it, or go back to thinking of nothing and just relaxing and remember you can let go of that scene whenever you like as easily as you can return to it. Some people like to visualize something boring so your concentration may drift off into something else or even sleep. If you like meditation you can use this time to do some more meditation in your bed wich is very good for you in so many ways.
