I have not had the oppurtunity yet to try this out more actively, but I will let you know my own experience. In the meantime, I would appreciate your feedback.

Context: The method involves paying close attention to the instincts you experience throughout the day. I think to begin, it would help to notice that ALL of our behavior is at least influenced by some instinct or combination thereof; and the complex brain has far wider range of subtle instincts than just sex, food etc. (Anyone interested further could read up on Evolutionary Psychology or the philosopher David Hume).

The method: 1) Take note throughout the day of how many of your instincts cannot be fully expressed due to social circumstances. Do this as often as possible, it will not be a waste of your time regardless of the lucid dreaming effects. ex.) not being able to strangle co-worker when they anger you or not being able to lie down on the sidewalk when you are tired.

2a) Reality Check: Ask yourself: is it okay to act on this impulse right now or will there be social repercussions? Even look at your hands for good measure.

2b) Whenever you notice this, be sure to remind yourself that when you are asleep tonight you will realize you are dreaming and then you will be allowed to have free reign of your passions. It might even help to be especially strict with yourself during the day, like doing something productive instead of watching TV so that you fully experience your instincts being somewhat sacrificed for self-control (please note this is not ad for stoicism).

      3) Dreaming: You guessed it, when you are dreaming, you will hopefully notice a strong urge and test to see if it is acceptable to which your R.C. will respond with a resounding; YES!

What partially made me think of this is that during dreams I will encounter a situation where perhaps I am talking to a naked woman, but feel restricted because there are other people around. I also think that taking note of our self-control can only have positive side-effects for other methods of inducing lucid dreams. I may have made this sound more complicated then it really is.

      What do you think?

Pretty good idea, try to catch yourself doing somthing stupid. Those are the times when i wake up and say to myself, " how did i not know it was a dream... I was throwing a car.."

Yea, when we're dreaming I guess we're back to our really primitive instincts except somehow we are not restricted by it.

Wow.. easier said than done. I have enough trouble doing reality checks when I enter a new room.

Interesting idea, but it's pretty fuzzy terrain to make sense of.
      Good luck with it

That's funny. A few weeks ago, I had a dream in which I suspected I was dreaming but, was in a restaurant and was too "embarrassed" to do an RC (as if it's socially unacceptable to be critical of your environment). Anyway, the main thing that made me suspect I might be dreaming was the fact that there was a naked woman (I only saw the torso) lying across the table with the crotch right in my face, a mere inches away

Image that - a naked p*ssy right in my face in a public restaurant but I'm too worried about "standing out" by doing a reality check. So I failed to become lucid over such a stupid lack of common sense. Dreamers can be so insanely illogical.
