      The Transition

Quick question about the transition process. So in the beginning I go to bed normally, like I would any other night. I have an alarm that I set for 5 hours later. At that point I deeply relax my body and go to bed while I constantly think "this is a dream" or "I'm going to have a lucid dream." Now, do I let myself fall asleep and hope that my sub-conscience will pick up on the fact that it's a dream/my RC's, or do I kind of...zone out and try to slip into a dream? It's hard to explain what I'm trying to ask, haha sorry. Will it just seem like I'm instantly in some place, anywhere, but it will not feel like it's random, unreal, or unnatural what-so-ever? Thanks for your help, everyone!

With all the LDs I got I just thought "I'm gonna lucid dream" and the drifted to sleep. Then somewhere in the dream it would just hit me that I was in a dream. Trying to slip into a dream is called WILD and you try to fall asleep while conscious. Whenever I tried to do this I was unsuccessfull because it's hard to achieve and it requires a lot of practise to achieve. Hope this helps.

It did, that clears it up quite a bit, thank you. Hmm, I can't really picture how it would feel to fall asleep, without falling asleep for a WILD. Interesting.

It's hard because when you become aware that you did it you may get over-excited and wake up too quickly. The times this happened to me I stumbled with SP and it isn't pretty...

I've had WILD's before, and if i get the question right. You wanna know how it feels/looks like when you enter the dream right?

And about the WILD thingy, you don't neccesarily need to say to yourself " I am dreaming I am dreaming " since this you will notice once you enter the dream from WILD. Even though it can be a good thing, in case of failed WILD and you fell asleep, so you might get a chance of a DILD.

Anyhow.. A WILD, trust me, when you enter a dream. You will notice, it's not like any other experience, after a while of vivid HI, you'll start seeing Solid images approaching, and it'll look more and more real and *poof* you can move your eyes and they follow as it should IRL. A new landscape has appeared. So, if you're really _really_ close to enter a dream, you'll notice. Trust me. Just, try to relax and not lose focus on what you're actually doing, try not to let you're mind float away, this will lead to you falling asleep.

It's a hard thing to master, but keep it up. I think it took me like.. 20 tries before I actually accomplished a WILD.

      Wuollet,

When you begin to see HI and when you begin to see solid images, what are you thinking about in your mind? In other words, do you find it best to concentrate on a certain scene, to repeat " am i dreaming?" or to simply just relax and let the dream happen?

If I can just figure this part out I think I've got it!

      Thanks in advance,

      Chris

I always get distracted with HI! The images sort of wake me up from near sleep! And if I focus on them they'll disappear!

Sorry even though I've been a member for about a week now I'm still unsure what HI stands for. I figure by now it's some kind of images, so I'll go off of that for now, lol. Alright well when I start to see the colors and different designs going through my head I think one of a few things. Either "...woah", "What's happening?", or basically just focus on those images. The only solid thing I've seen (which was 2 nights ago) was a forest for literally like half a second, and then outer space. I posted all about my dream there, I think I was lucid for a couple seconds and then panic'd out of it. You can check it out here:

What's the best thing to focus on when you get to the point where the darkness begins to show images and colors?

Those images and colors are the HI (Hypnogogic Imagery). You start seeing them when you're really rellaxed and it's a sign you're probably close to dreaming. Sometimes these images are intense but it doesn't mean you're already dreaming. Take your time to start interacting with the images. Do so only when you feel you're really there.
