Does anyone here find that they have better dreams/control after having a drink? I have had a bad nights sleep the past week, not recalled any dreams really and no LDs. But last night whilst working I inadvertently drank a bottle of wine, and sure enough, I recall about 4 or 5 dreams I had. Not sure if it could be related, but has anyone else found they have better dreams after a drink? And could alcohol help have more vivid dreams?

"inadvertently" drank a "bottle" of wine? LOL!!

Alcohol doesn't help my dreaming.. in fact.. quite the opposite.

It depends on the amount i take. One glass of red wine boosts my dream recall, but when i exceed two, fuhget aboutit.

My total dream awareness usually decreases with allot of alcohol. However if I take a little, like one glass of wine i do alright, it may even help me with dream recall.

Yes, I have the same experience with red wine. Red wine makes me more 'powerful', anything else just kills my dreams. Doesn't surprise me, it's a good aphrodisiac and thus probably affects other areas as well.

I make wine as a hobby and have observed the following:

When I drink maybe one or two glasses, it has no real affect either on my vividness or lucidity.
After three glasses, I find my lucidity is totally gone. Almost never go lucid.
If I drink more than three, I find that my vividness goes WAY up, but only later in the morning. Alcohol suppresses REM while in the blood stream. After it is metabolized, you get a strong REM rebound. However, although the dreams are highly realistic and full of adventure, they are not lucid.

hmm, well i actually think it does help and it doesn't help, you could think it in the way that the alcohol damages your liver and brain cells, but then you could think that if you like wine you may see it as a rewarding sort of thing to drink, puts you in a good mood, more positive about things, thats if you like wine of course, theres also the fact that alcohol can sometimes help relieve bit of stress, its a bad way to block out stress but it could lead to a nice set of dreams becauseyou can't remember what was on your mind previously. thats my input, but drink safely guys, don't go drinking bottles and bottles of wine to induce a lucid dream! lol

I don't think alcohol is the only working ingredient here. If it was, apple schnapps would do the same trick. No, it's the sweet sweet essence of red wine that strenghens your soul, body and manlyhood. Actually, I think I'll grab a glass right now! But, as unicorn so correctly points out, a drop and an ocean are two different things..

Been experimenting with this over the last couple of weeks, and have found I have much longer, vivid dreams with a couple of glasses of wine! I do enjoy a nice glass of red, and have found if I dont drink any my dream recall is not as good and my dreams seem shorter and less vivid...

How is your lucidity after drinking that glass of wine? Did you chart that as well?

As per my PM I have been struggling with attaining lucidity recently anyway, I have not, however, had a lucid dream after drinking wine, but this could also be because I have not have a lucid dream for a while. Difficult to tell. I might keep a journal for a couple of weeks, and see what affect it has.

My first good lucid dream was after a hard night of partying. I think it was because the alcohol kept my body from getting too excited and let me stay asleep.

After another party, however I couldn't remember a single dream.

I was working (at home) and it was a hot night, and didn't realise until I got to the end that I had actually finished the whole bottle lol

Something I notice after drinking any type of Alcohal in a...good amount:p

I tend to passout, dream recall isn't very good, but as I sleep from the morning-afternoon, I tend to dream ALOT and very VIVIDLY. I've had multiple LDs after a night of drinking.

However its probably not the best way to induce LD's

My first few LD's happened in nights after drinking some alcohol. And alcohol makes you sleep more superficial, you wake up more often. So I think it can help.
