      Question *~WiLd HeLp~*

Hii people, I just tried to WILD last night, and it almost worked!! But when I started seeing the colors, I realized I was forcing my eyes shut slightly and when I relaxed them, the colors left. Is anyone else having this kind of trouble?? And when I felt the sinking feeling, (and all of this on my first try!) I woke up, but not intentionally. When I feel the sinking feeling, do I still remain concsious of it, or just fall asleep with it? Does anyone know what I mean??

      Congratulations!

First I'll ask you a few questions first to see where you were with it—when did you attempt this WILD? Right at bed or after waking up after 4-7 hours of normal sleep? Also, did you remain completely still and eventually feel as though your entire body was numb and paralyzed except for your eyes? If not, you must. Both these things are prerequisites for a successful WILD.

After this, you just lay still and let things happen. If you feel the sinking sensation, just go along with it. You may just feel the onset of it and then it goes away—that's normal. Just keep waiting. Eventually you'll either see colors and images, or you won't and you'll just see nothing at all. Just simply wait until you "feel" as if you can move your dream body. Either you will "all of a sudden" find yourself standing in a dream world somewhere, or you will have to "roll out of your body" onto the floor and then stand up in your dream body.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

      Good luck!

You might benefit from doing a quick search for Clairity's WILD technique threads.

In fact, I did it for you:

The responses and discussion are as informative as the tutorial, so do check both.

I attempted the WILD after about 4 hours of sleep. It's not that I felt numb, but I'm thinking that my body just skipped being numb to feeling the sinking sensation along my body. It felt wierd, but in a good way. I think that I became too aware of the sinking and it went away because I got too excited. I was completely still, in a comfortable position. Thanks for the advice!

Hmm. How long did you stay awake before attempting the WILD? Did you just wake up 4 hours later and just lie still and go right into the WILD attempt? Or did you completely get up for 5 minutes or more? If you got up at all, you shouldn't have been able to "skip" over the numb sensation (sleep paralysis), because your body needs to be numb and in SP before you dream, otherwise you will actually "act out" your dreams (check out Wikipedia's article on SP).

And how long did you lay still before you aborted the attempt? It can usually take between 20 and 40 minutes (maybe even more) to get to the deep stages of SP whereas you start the dream transition. You have to feel as though you "don't know where your body is" (this is hard to explain)—for example when I'm in the deep SP, pre-dream stages, I feel as though my hands are actually under my body or through the bed rather than at my side. This is a sign that you're ready to "exit" your body and use your dream body. I suggest being more patient and waiting longer until you feel more sensations. The early "sinking sensation" isn't always a sign that a dream is near.

I woke up and got out of bed for about 20 minutes. Now that I'm thinking more about it, about 5 seconds before the sinking feeling, I felt somewhat "heavy", and that might have been sleep paralysis. I wonder if I could've moved if I tried. I lay still for about 20 minutes; I probably should've waited longer. I'll keep in mind to wait for sleep paralysis before just going to sleep.

I've also heard of going back to blackness before entering your dream; how do you know that you've just closed your dream eyes instead of just going back to where you started?

When I did my first WILD, my room just opened up before my eyes. I didn't need to open them, my room just came into view. Give it a try

Yes the blackness problem can and does occur. The best way to figure it out is to perform a RC (reality check) that does not require you to move very much at all (moving to perform a RC would ruin your progress, if you're not yet in a dream).

There are two RCs I've heard of that are useful in this case.
      A) You try to stick your tongue through your teeth. If you can, you're dreaming

      B) You block your nasal passage with the muscle at the back of your throat. If you can breathe through your nose, you're dreaming! (Hard to explain what muscle this is—but when you swallow, this muscle will always automatically block your nasal passage so you can't breathe through your nose. That's the muscle to use).

I will also add, that in my own personal successful WILDs I have never seen any colors to any great degree, and have never seen images at all. I usually do hear a very loud sound in my ears right before transition; this is called tinnitus. At this point, I usually just "know" that I can move my dream body without moving my real body (I can't feel my real body at all at this point), and I just roll off my bed or stand up beside it (in my dream body). When you get this far, make sure to use stabilizing techniques so you don't wake up.
