      Afraid of hallucinations

For the past two days, I have been attempting to induce a lucid dream by the WILD method, ie, going to bed and focusing on dream control. I have gone as close as where SP begins to take effect, but I have bailed due to the fear of not regaining movement and, of course, what will happen next.

Basically, I am terrified of having hallucinations - whilst not being able to move. I have also heard reports of people using this method experiencing OBEs, which don't exactly thrill me either. Do these happen on a regular basis or is it just on freak occasions?

I guess what I am wondering is does anyone know if there is perhaps a more 15-year-old-who-scares-easily-friendly technique I could use? I really don't want to miss out on LDs as they sound like a lot of fun

      Cheers

OBEs are not possible. An OBE, is just a very vivid dream, where you see your self floating over your own body, or just simply looking at your own sleeping body.

Also, we go in and out of SP all the time. We experience hallucinations all the time. It's not dangerous, and it can not just hook onto you, and keep playing.

WILD is the holy grail of lucid-dreaming, there is no better technique.

Do you mean when we are dreaming? I'm not so afraid of that. I'm more scared of a scenario along the lines of being paralyzed and having a hallucination of something gnawing at my leg or something and being able to do nothing about it - not even scream. Does that kind of thing ever happen?

Also, thanks for the speedy replies

well a dream is technically a hallucination, but it is easy to hallucinate (even without drugs)

Yes, that can happen, but it can't harm you. If you hold that in mind, you should be able to actually enjoy such a special experience. Usually online lasts for a few minutes, and sometimes, you just wake up, paralyzed, and then you can move after a few minutes, but, it is extremely rare, to experience SP.

I see. So are there any special techniques for breaking SP?

Also, are there any risks involved in LDing? I mean, can it stuff up your body's SP system or anything?

Still sounds terrifying to me >_<

Is it possible to 'will hallucinations away' as I've heard you can do in LDs?

In that case, I'm a little annoyed at myself for throwing away two opportunities two nights in a row at LDing lol.

      Thanks for your help.

I've killed an almost-successful WILD too, after experiencing the feeling of getting hit by a truck.

If you're scared try using MILD instead of WILD. According to Stephen LaBerge he used it to have Lucid Dreams at will. But I can tell you now that if you are too scared to experience SP you will be too scared to experience a lucid dream. You have to get over the fear first.

It isn't the SP that I am afraid of, its the symptoms that I have heard can go with it.

I actually determined last night that I would keep going regardless of hallucinations/SP, but I wasn't even able to go that far >_<

Your fear is totally understandable!!! I've had SP hallucinations and they're really frightening! I almost never try WILD because of this!
About the OBE thing, a lucid dream induced through WILD could be very simillar to an OBE, so could you be scared of that kind of dream?

If I was totally sure that it was just an LD, then it probably would be fine. Its mainly just the steps you need to take to reach an LD using WILD that sound a little scary to me.
I think I might need to try another method such as WBTB. Are hallucinations common while using this method?

      Thanks for your help.

ya ive bailed like 5 times >.< ut when some one said you should try to get hallucinations to just kinda "slap it in the face" and show it your not afraid. So when i went to bed one night i got realy excited to have hallucinations. It seemed to work... in fact i wanted a happy hallucination... it felt like i slipped into a tub of jello

A lot of people seem to be giving advice very different from what I do. To Lucid Dream, I use DILD and MILd, but I still try WILD a lot. Mostly because of the hallucinations. I've never had any freaky "Knawing on leg" experiances, probably because I just don't expect to have one. When I WILD I go at it with the intention to see some really cool shit. And I do. If you still have problems with your HI, try opening your dream eyes. I find that if I pretend to open my eyes, but keep my eyes closed, I can create a dream around myself fairly quickly. It doesn't last if I'm not in SP though.
I had a strange dream last night...

No, you have no hallucinations if you use only this method. You wake up five or six hours after you went to sleep, then you spend some time remembering your dreams and writting them, or reading about lucid dreaming (doing a few RCs will also be helpful) and then you just go back to sleep. Sometimes you get LDs, sometimes you don't... I've induced all my LDs through this method. It may work well for you as well.

Wow, that sounds pretty straight forward. So you just go back to bed and go straight to sleep? No freaky 'trick you mind into staying awake' business?
