      Proper Reality Checking.

I haven't had a (memorable) Lucid Dream in seriously more than 8 months or so and suddenly, 2 nights ago, I had a splendid Lucid Dream.

The reason I dreamt so memorable and vivid might have something to do with me not having smoked weed in about 3 days which is known to give you an REM-rebound. But the thing thjat got me Lucid was 1 specific reality check the evening before I went to sleep.

I was at a friend's place and I had recorded a songtune I made up earlier that day on my phone with my Synthesizer. I was very happy and euphoric and also minorly stoned. In this mood I went to the bathroom to take a leak. In there I remembered to do a Reality Check. And so I did: Trying to stick my hand through the wall, reading something looking away and reading it again. Those are my fav. 2 RC's. Well at the time they provbed that I was awake, bnut somehow I had the feeling that my head was more at the Reality Checks I was doing than normal. So it really had all my attention and I remembered that moment really well like it had made some sort of Impression. I had a positive feeling about Lucidity that night and fell asleep like that.

Sure enough I had a Lucid Dream that I remembered the next morning. Doing the pinch-your-nose-and-breathe- RC allready proved that I was dreaming, Hoovering upwards from the surface reassured me. I took a conscious effort of calming my overjoyed mind down in order not to awaken myself and when I did I flew over the dreamscape with incredible speed.

The thing that got me remembering to do an RC in the Dream was that particulair RC I did the evening before. Make a conscious effort to make sure the moment you do an RC properly penentrates your memory and sticks around; be sure your attention is with the RC for the full 100% cuz alot of us, myself included, think we are doing RCs that make a difference but the thing is we do them half aware and not consciously. If we would do that we would be much more likely to retrieve a memory to RC in the midtst of a Dream.

thanks a ton for posting this! I'm new to LD's and so far my biggest problem has been doing RC's in my dreams. I too have stopped smoking tree for a few days and holy shit...my dream recall has skyrocketed!

Anyways, I'll definitely try to leave an impression in my mind of me doing the RC's. Basically, you gave it your full attention right? I've been doing RC's daily but I guess a bit half minded...I'll let you know if this works tonight.

And I'll vouch for that. Stopping or quitting for awhile makes a huge improvement in recall ability.

I agree that it's important to give an RC your full attention. RCs performed in passing don't do enough to A) confirm your current state and, B) solidify the importance and purpose of the RC into your mind.

      Thanks for the positive reactions.
The thing is that I didn't consciously try to do these RC's Mindfully. I just happened to be in a very conscious state of mind and I noticed that I was very much into the RC as I did it. I noticed it made a difference while I didn't consciously try to do it this properly. Often times m Mind is easily distracted, but this superconcentrated state of mind may also have had to do with me being more than a bit stoned. quite a bit and the satisfaction from the song I was writing made my mind supercalm and open to suggestions and impressions. Since my dreams have been vivid and my Dreamrecall has increased a bit too. The sensations, rather than concrete memories, of my dreams are much more present in daytime. Like my Dream memories are constantly demanding my attention throughout the day.

I've found that none of the techniques here on Dreamviews seem to help me except for me remembering to do RC's: Sofar I have only become lucid this way. uppon the spontanious memory to do an RC in the middle of a dream.
I think what we need here on DreamViews is a Tutorial on how exactly to do RC's mindfully so that they'll make an impression and linger around in your thoughts like my RC from that specific night.
      Some help would be appreciated.

I just assumed there already was but, now that I think about it, maybe not. If not then that really is a void that needs to be filled.

It's important that RCs be performed, not just acted out. The level of mental involvement can make a big difference. If we can train our minds to get more into our RCs we'd all probably have better overall success.

It sounds to me like you are a very frequent weed smoker. Just my two cents on this: It's good to take like a week long break from weed every now and then to "clean" out your body and mind. Congrats on the lucid dream.

I think I'm going to discuss this with a couple of my friends who I have also interrested mayorly in Lucid Dreaming.

Maybe some meditative practise to first clear and calm the mind and then do a series of RC's all around the house. Making Music works very meditative for me and does a good job cleansing my mind so maybe In could try playing Piano for a long period of time, get up and do some RC's right away.

BTW I do not smoke weed as frequently as I used to. Maybe with weeks of nonsmoking in between so that may contribute to my REM-rebound lately.
