REM occurs after about 5 hours of sleep doesn't it?
Actually, REM occurs many times during the night (in cycles)- usually about 90 minutes from the time you start to fall asleep. As the night progresses, the amount of time you spend in REM increases, making your longest dreams happen in the early morning.

I don't sleep in the morning xD but I know what you are saying. Thanks for clearing that up though. So basically what you are saying is that the longer you are sleeping the longer your REM period is? So if you were to sleep for 15 hours than you would have a long REM period? That makes sense since it seems to be what I experience when I am asleep for a prolonged period of time.

..wow I see this site is progressing on any advancements sine last time i've been here..months.. Anyways back to the ques. Yes after a certain amount of sleep REM lasts for various hours after sleeping. The eason being that you wake up around 8 hours is because each sleep cycle, beta waves more and more beta waves occur to the point you're not tired anymore. After 8 hours of sleep, ry waiting like 4 hours or so to take a nap and you should automatically go into REM.
      I stomp on your ideas.

That's "morning" as in, you go to bed at night and wake in the morning. In other words, later in your sleep.

There's a maximum limit to the length of any one REM period. So, they get longer as the night progresses but it levels off after so many periods.
