      Fild

hey um just a question when doing FILD. after you wake up in your REM period do you have to wait untill you get sleepy to start moving your fingers or can you do it as soon as you wake up? and for how long do you have to do it until you do a reality check?

hey, I think I can answer your question. Iv tried FILD about 4 times...the first time It worked, but havent had any further success with that... i guess its just practice/adjustment

but...I basically woke up....got a drink (with lights off i think) and then just went straight back to bed. i usually am sleepy AS SOON as i wake up. so its a strugle to do just that

and you just move your fingers straight away...and check maybe what feels like every minute.....if you wait too long...you might fall asleep and if you check too often you might not get to sleep. i think thats been my problem.

even if you feel awake, practicing FILD surely cant be harmful. so just go straight back to bed and RC like every 45-60seconds...but dont count the seconds....that will keep you awake.

      happpy filding

Yes, you are supposed to already by in your REM cycle when attempting this. So far when I do the FILD it has just prevented me from falling back to sleep but I'm going to keep working on it. How have your attempts been?

It could mean you are in a dream..Why not try a RC? But really, how long did it take before you got this feeling. You should be doing an RC within 30 seconds, as that is how long it should take for you to fall asleep.

I haven't had any success with FILD. I just might be doing it wrong.

hey uh... i have a quick question about fild - so the feeling of your fingers moving - thats what keeps the conscious mind alert right? so in theory while in your REM stage, could one touch the fingers of the sleeping person, and stimulate the part of the brain required for the excersize?

Well, it should work, but then you should just have someone verbally say you are dreaming, hehe.

I don't really worry about this problem, I always am sleepy when I wake up at first, especially only after a few hours. I would suggest to turn off alarm and go right back to bed.

What kind of rc's can you do when you are sleeping/eyes closed/shouldn't move when doing a fild or wild? I read a thread talking about trying to breathe with the passage closed or something...

yeah i had trouble understanding that one at first but i got it after. it's like when you swallow.try swallowing but dont finish the swallow. right after you've actually let the saliva pass through your throat hold that muscle there. you should feel it blocking your airway. try to breath and its like you've blocked your nose. hope this helps

by the way, I remember from my FILD...i saw no HI or felt nothing different if I remember.

I dont remember anything feeling different. just blackness..and then RC....blackness RC...blackness and then dream

my guess is..if you keep rc-ing during filding then it will be the last thing on your mind before you fall asleep...so you probably dream about FILDing as result do it.

Well the technique works in the way that as you fall asleep, and you are moving your fingers, you will fall to sleep, unconsciously but will remember to do the rc in your dream, because it will seem as if you just continued moving your fingers, since as you said, it was the last thing on your mind.

However, it's weird to think that while it may seem like only 30 seconds till you do the reality check, it may be ten minutes as you fall into deep sleep, before rem, that you do the check..but it works so I'm not complaining!

The technique worked very well for me. The first night I tried it, i set my alarm for 4:00 (went to bed around 11:00) and woke up. But because of excitement or having to turn of my alarm I was very awake and decided to screw it. Then I
woke up twice more tried it and it worked. One time, I didn't even move my fingers, I just waited for the tingly feeling.

My advice: be as tired as possible before moving fingers
      if possible wake up naturally
wait to RC until you feel all tingly (once you know what it feels like, you'll understand)
