      Doing RCs in your Imagination

      Very quick very simple.

I alwasy do ALOT of RCs regulairly throughout the day, but only VERY rarely do these RCs return in my dreams.

I was thinking: What if, instead of doing REAL physical RCs, you would Close your eyes and IMAGINE doing an RC?

Dreams are in the world of Imagination afterall + with your eyes closed imagining doing an RC you may be much more focussed and less easily distracted. How about that for an alternative way to RC? Worth giving a shot I guess. Any thoughts?

thats actually really interesting, you give it a shot and tell me if it works out. My reality checks during the day don't seem to help me out during the night.
Dreaming is forgetting the basis of reality, remembering it is to be lucid.

I like the idea, it definately seems possible and RC's will maybe be more appealing to those who find RC's more of a chore, i will try this and let you know of the results.

Yeah similar method with Urs. I do too many RCs for too long...my mind gets tired of it. I have to like get the enthusiasm for doing RCs to do them in the dream which is best at WBTB.

      Good reasoning SKA.

I had the same idea a few months ago and tried it for a couple of days and had some lucid dreams from it. In fact it was the first time I had more than one lucid dream in one night. Here's a link to a post I made on it. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=33626

I sort of got out of the habit though.

I think that anything a person does in their imagination is going to be more effective toward helping them become lucid in their dreams, than something done in the physical, since that is where dreams occur.

Another thing about reality checks that I've found helpful lately is just to do them whenever I make a change in what I am doing, when I go into a different room, when I turn on a different street when driving, etc. Since I am doing so many of them now, about 300 or more a day, compared to the 10 or 15, if that many, that I used to do, I keep them simple just by asking myself if I am dreaming, and checking to make sure all of my fingers are there, or else just imagining myself doing a reality check (actually this is what I plan to start doing again).

One good way of doing an imagined reality check is to use one of your dreamsigns (something or someone unusual that occurs in your dreams, such as a deceased person, that you should be able to recognize at being unusual), and visualize that dreamsign occuring in one of your dreams again, then picturing yourself doing a reality check and becoming lucid from it.

One advantage that I've found with doing imagined reality checks over real reality checks is that with imagined reality checks I picture the reality check giving me a signal that I am dreaming and myself becoming lucid in my dream as a result of this, whereas with a regular reality check, the reality check works normally, and I find that I am not dreaming.

So I think that by using imagined reality checks a person can help to program their subconsious mind better to expect to become lucid than they can with regular reality checks.

      Thumbs up

      ^^
seriously, thanks for the insight! I've been trying to figure out a better way to get myself to perform RC's mid-dream, since I've never actually been able to do one yet. This advice sounds much more practical than simply looking at my hands during the day and knowing I'm in reality. Hopefully this will help me towards more lucidity!

Good to see enthusiams back on these forums.

I thought: maybe you could continue doing physical RC's, but before you do them, Imagine them. Eyes closed or opened: whatever works best for you. Imagine both outcomes. If you try to stick your hand through a wall, stop, and imagine reaching THROUGH the wall and realising you are Dreaming. Next imagine not being able to go through the wall and realising you are awake and not Dreaming. Now; You do the actual Reality check, with as little pre-expectation possible.

This way you not only are you more likely to have the whole concept of doing RCs linger around in your mind, also you focus much better on what you are doing which in turn might also help making a more significant memory of it.

I came up with this, but since now I will do RCs this way intensively and see what the results are.
