      Chanting yourself alseep

Last night I tried to chant/sing while falling asleep. I used a sort of South america indian-type of melody that was pretty short and I kept repeating it over and over . Oh the power of repetition .

      Anyways. I did it to:
      1) Fall into a trance and accelerate the onset of SP and
      2) To stay conscious while falling asleep, focussing soully on my own voice.

Well I was TOTALLY relaxed within no time so it worked for number 1, but also I was quite aware during stages I usually never consciously experience.
At a given moment I stopped, because I just wanted to get a good night's sleep. Too bad, but tonight I will defenitely carry on chanting myself all the way into neverneverland. At least I'll do my best.
But I am impressed by how well it worked and I'm going to try it again tonight. I was chanting in a manner that it hardily took any effort so I could easily keep it up eventhough I was on the borderline of sleep. I'd say it took no more effort than breathing in and out.

I recommend everyone on here to try this. Preferably a melody that makes you calm and a very short one that you repeat over and over: When it get's boring, that's what you want. Pretty soon you'll fall into a trance.

Dear dreamers. If you could all give this a try and let me know how it went and what you experienced than that'd be greatly appreciated.

Sounds interesting. Did you initially use this as a means to try and achieve lucidity? It sounds like something that could be useful. Almost like how people chant mantras as they're falling asleep as a form of MILD. It sounds like it could work very well.

Wow, definately worth a try! Is this for WILDs? Do you wake up in the night to do this, or do you do it before you go to sleep?

Thats strange that is, i was talking to dodobird last night about a similar sort of thing, sounds interesting, definately worth a try though, if it makes you calm and relaxed then the message is more likely to go in. Good job SKA

Well I just came up with it one night right before going to sleep. I tried it then, but not with the disciplined intention to achieve WILD, but more to easily put me into a trance and to find out if, by focussing on the Word-less Melody only, I would be better able to keep spontanious thoughts away and maintain an undisturbed attention more easily. It worked really well to my surprise.

I think the most important thing is choosing a simple melody, which isn't thought-provocing and doesn't lead to a chain of spontanious impulsive thoughts, and focussing ALL attention on that Melody. The repetition provides a rapid trance which put me in SP in no time and the Auditory stimulance of hearing my own voice kept me aware much longer into the process of falling asleep than usual.

      Any feedback would be nice.
I've decided to stick with this untill it works. The thing is at a certain time you're so tired and entranced you're VERY VERY tempted to give up, roll over and fall asleep deeply unconscious. The trick is not to give up and I will attempt it tonight again.

If you're currently attemtping WILD or any other technique it never hurts to try chanting yourself asleep anywayz. Let us make this a contest and see which one of us can keep it up longest without stopping, without rolling over or giving up untill signs of dreams start showing up.

Do you do this in conjuction to wbtb or at the onset of your first sleep of the night?

Is the chant 'dream' related or will any one word or short sentence repeated over and over be ok?

I must admit to being highly intrigued, but rather confused. Chant a wordless simple melody? I think I grasp your meaning, but I'm not positive. Perhaps making a short recording of yourself chanting that we could use as a point of reference would be helpful.
      Yeah.

Actually the most important thing is that it is wordless and pure melodic. That way we don't give our Mind the chance to start thinking about what we sing. Words, in my case, lead to thoughts and that way I get distracted. I sing a short repetative wordless melody, focus all my attention on it and find it easy not to get distracted at all.

I don't have a mic on this computer so I cannot record it right away but I might try and find something similair to what I use to chant. It resembles very closely what South-American Shamans sing during Ayahuasca ceremonies.

This movie, 2:20 minutes into nthe movie:

This type of chant, except then completely wordless and purely melodic.

Such a shame that no one has reported anything back yet.

That's kind of the problem of this forum's topic's efficienty: People get very easily bored and give up after not seeing immediate results. Why don't we try to stick with good ideas, before we skip it searching for the next best method? The results of this haste is that not a single topic gets the attention it deserves and therefor isn't constructive and helpfull. Anyone willing to give this a serious try and report back to us here?

I'm going to try this again, but I would really like to hear what you guys did and how it worked for ya.
