My first attempt at a WILD... a failure

So, I went to bed around 11, set my alarm for 5. Blah blah, went to sleep, alarm goes off at 5, woke up. No problems so far. I don't remember exactly what happened after I woke up, though. I know I tried to WILD, but I think I was too tired to concentrate, and I ended up just falling asleep.

After I woke up later that morning, I realized that this was a good time to try again. I closed my eyes and focused on the colors and shapes. I don't know how long it took, but before I knew it, I was up to the point where the colors and shapes had formed into distinguishable patterns. But then, for some reason, I opened my eyes. Just ended it right there. I was disappointed at myself, but I was determined to try again. No such luck this time. I just lied there for about half an hour, seeing nothing but moving blobs of color. Frustrated, I gave that up and tried a few more times; in different positions, paying more attention to breathing, using the "going through a tunnel" technique, etc. Everything failed. I decided I was too much awake to attempt this any further, so I gave up for the day.

So far I'm not having much luck with anything that involves waking up after 5-6 hours of sleep. I tried NILDing, but the problem was, I had a hard time getting back to sleep. I ended up spending about 3 hours awake, and when I did finally get to sleep, it was only an hour, lucid-dream-less.

      So, any tips?

when you wake up at 5, get out of bed for 30 minutes, your mind will be more awake, then try again, you'll be able to concentrate better

I think thats pretty good. Whenever I try I lay there for like over an hour and I don't see a thing. I think I wake up to much and I can't fall asleep. Even after just a few minutes. I don't know how good my advice is since I only got it to work once but I think being more tired is better than being more awake.

One other thing, if you open your eyes make sure your not dreaming. Most of the time I think its because you really do open your eyes, but you never know. My first and only wild was a false awakening, I might of missed it too if something weird didnt happen right after I opened my eyes, because I forgot to check and thought for sure I was awake.

Whenever I try to WILD, I either lose concentration and fall asleep, or I just lay there for hours. And with NILD, I consider myself lucky if I can fall asleep again.

I usually clear my mind and focus on the bursts of light underneath my eyelids, and whenever a thought comes into my mind I picture it on a cloud and let it float away and disappear. The method's fine, it's just I haven't gotten great at applying it yet.

After 5-6 hours of sleep, or just right before bed?

Well, I try to go for 5-6 hours but I usually end up waking up a bit earlier or later, give or take an hour or so. I can't just use an alarm clock, as it would wake up my whole family, so I usually drink a couple glasses of water before bed. Works great, but the problem is, it's hard to judge when you'll wake up. So in other words, yes, the main problem is my timing.

Yesterday I got my "Exploring the world of lucid dreaming" book.
I've found an interesting method for inducing WILD > when you wake up in the later part of night, go back to sleep, counting to yourself. like 1, I'm dreaming, 2, i'm dreaming...
I almost succeeded, but the moment I felt the onset of wild some MF started making noises in the room next door...

The thing is - i was laying on my back, which is extremely uncomfortable, and counted till about 350, but every 5, or 6 some thought, or image breaks the count...

Well, I'll try it again today, while laying on my side...

Meh, last time that did it for me was I was picuring myself on top of a mountain, looking at a magnificent view, and there was a sign in my view saying 'you're dreaming!!' and whenever I started thinking about something else I dismissed it and concentrated on the view.

But its damn hard sometimes to concentrate on that....

I agree with CT about staying up for about 30 mins. that should really work out for ya. Call me different but I never see any pictures during my WILDS let alone colors. I guess because I keep my eyes close. I concentrate more on the sensation and work off that. And mine are 100% initiated from Sleep Paralysis. If you can get a piece of Sleep paralysis you would find WILDS to come more easier.

The problem with me is I guess sometimes i'm trying to hard or soemthing, so when I start to get an extreme falling sensation, or i start ot hear hypnagogic sounds, (I get the lower form of hypnagogic imagery all the time - moving blogs and specks), or anything else I realize that and sort of get a shock like "WHOA IM ALMOST THERE YAY" and because of that its gone, but its hard not to, ive tried so many times.

Doing NILDs would be so much easier if I could fall asleep whenever I wanted to... Anyone have any tips on just falling asleep easier? Whenever I take a nap I either lay there for hours or I drift in and out of sleep. Help is much appreciated!

Well, so far I've tried one WILD, one NILD, and one MILD. None of them have succeeded. It was annoying when I failed the MILD; I was so commited to getting a lucid dream, and I had convinced myself so much, that I kind of experienced a loss of faith when I didn't have one. I think the problem was that as I started to fall asleep I stopped telling myself I'd have a lucid dream.

I think that WILD is the best way to iniate lucid dreams. First off, if you do it right your automaticly fully concious in your dream, second off, even the time that I did fall asleep while trying i realized i was dreaming within one minute of the dream.

Instead of counting, I also have the book Expoling The World Of Lucid Dreaming, i imagine where i want my dream to be, with as much detail as possible, then i put myself in the dream. I think of nothing else but this and after a few minutes i feel my legs and arms beinging to numb. I try to clear my mind at this point and not think about anything if possible, if i start to feel tired then i do a few math problems in my head. Then soon enough i start seeing dots of color, soon swirls of color. After a little while i usually find my dream setting, the one i pictured earlier, be careful not to come in too fast. What i do is i watch for about 25 seconds, reminding myself that i am dreaming, then raise my hand up and look at it. When i do that my whole body seems to drop in and im off. I try to set up what im going to do before i enter the dream, and i'll usually remember that "oh yeah, i'm going to try flying tonight" and the fun begins.
