FYI: An Induction Technique I Use

This following is a technique I use and is likely pretty common. Since I'm new to the forum I haven't had a chance to read too much on techniques yet, so I apologize if this is standard stuff. Anyway, I find that what I call "writing mantras" work pretty well. Pretty much I get out the pad of paper and a pen before going to bed and I write over and over such lines as:

"Tonight I'll have a lucid dream." OR "Lucidity comes to dream land tonight!"

I'm right-handed, so to create a little dream-like spice to the "mantra" I'll use my left hand when writing. This, I feel, adds a little wackyness to the activity and mimics the wackyness you might encounter in a dream.

      So much for that.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a form of MILD - Mnemonic-Induced Lucid Dream.

Adding the non-dominant hand thing to it is a great idea!

So... how well does it work for you?

Well, I haven't been into the LD "game" for a couple of years now (see my other posts), so give me some more time to experiment with it and I'll let you know. Last night, however, showed promising results.

Hmm, this seems like an interesting idea...I've thought about writing out some sayings as well, but never tried.

Like PJ asked...does it work for you?

I do that occasionally, scribble several times over the word LUCID DREAM at the top of my home dream journal. It's worked a few times. I should have kept track of how often it worked now that I think about it.

Never thought to do use the opposite hand though.
I will give that a shot next time I'm scribbling for lucidity.

      Bro,

As I mentioned, I really need more time with the technique to give a good answer, but so far the initial results have been promising. A couple of years ago, when I had an avid practice going, I really didn't get a chance to exercise this particular technique before I fell out of practice, though I did have the idea back then of doing it this way. Now that I'm getting back into LD, I've just started to induce this way. So far it seems to be working.

It is a form of MILD.

You could take some time, right before sleep, to empty your mind and write on a paper: "I will repeatedly do RCs tonight" and "Lucid Dream" while focussing your attention at it the best you can. Writing always demands a certain amount of concentration so there for it may work better.

Perhaps you could take a blocknote and write "Lucid Dream" over and over like a 100 times or more. Then you coul drink a cup of Tea and proceed to write down "I will frequently do RC's at all times" about a 100 times or more. The power of Writing, which demands attention, combined with the Power of rehearsal, which also helped me learn the translation of spanish words while studying, might be very usefull to "learn" our subconscious minds to lucid dream.

Perhaps this power of rehearsal can be furtherly exploited for the induction of lucid dreams, When I had to learn spanish or french words I would cover them all up and learn their Dutch translation one by one.

      Here's my learning-method;
-I would lower the piece of paper covering the words to read the first word and it's translation. I would remember it and start again. And so on and so on. Till I was done. Needless to say out of 30 words not many I remembered their translation.

-I would start all over again. First word I usually remembered. Whenever I hit a word of which I forgot it's translation I'd start all over again from the first word.
-I would repeat, revealinhg, failing to translate and start all over again untill I knew all 30 words right out of my head.
This works really really well for me. It gets burnt into my memory that way.
I guess it also had an element of Conditioning cause learning 30 french or spanish words is pretty boring and you just wanna get it over with. So I forced myself to be able to know them all out of the top of my head first, by repeating over and over, to be allowed by myself to stop with the boring task.

Now perhaps to apply this method to lucid dreaming you could take one sentence like: "I will allways remember to question Reality and do RCs frequently".
It's not like you can condition yourself to remember by forcing yourself to keep reading foreign words it untill you understand the translation (the conditioning part), since this is only one sentence.

So instead we could try to oblige ourselves to keep writing it on a blocknote repeatedly untill we FULLY UNDERSTAND and Remember that sentence; Untill our mind is completely undistracted, with all it's concentration at the sentence you're writing so that it is better able to remember that sentence. And more particulairy it's meaning.
Just write, write, write, untill you can Read that sentence and your mind juts eats it up and FULLY understands, undistractedly, whatv it means. Like a hypnotic trance of openmindedness making you open for suggestions, you condition your mind to open up to and take in the memory to " always remember to question Reality and frequently do RCs"

Don't stop writing till you "get it", Get it?
      I might try this.

Yeah, it's like: "don't stop willing until you realize that you don't have to try so hard."
