Anyone experience the type of dream I'm talking about?

The more and more I think about it ... the more and more I think that I've been lucid on more occasions than I recall.

[Actually ... I have experienced lucidity exactly once ... and this was about 8-9 years ago. That is, only once have I experienced "true" lucidity ... realized I was dreaming and managed to stay in the dream for about 10 seconds (of dream time) before losing it....]

However, I have been recalling more and more often a recurring type of dream that I have and am wondering if anybody has experienced anything similar. Please forgive me if this has been discussed before as I am new to the boards.

Almost every job I've ever had involved working with the public in one form or the other. I distinctly remember several dreams in which I was waiting on a "problem" patron/customer.... In every single instance that I can remember, I realize--at some point--"Oh, wait ... this is a dream.... I don't have to wait on this person ... I can just forget about it and go back to sleep...." That is how the dreams always end--with me basically just saying to myself: "OK ... dream ... never mind." I always go back into unconsciousness. The dreams never continue. I guess because I have no desire for them to.

Is this lucidity? Like I described ... as soon as I realize it is a dream I immediately just "go back to sleep." Would anyone else who has had similar dreams please share them? I feel like I've been cheating myself because--now that I look back on them--the dreams seem to (at least minimally) qualify as "lucid," yet I make no attempt to keep them going....

      First, welcome!

Yes, this is a form of lucid dreaming. I've had similar things where I dream all night about a problem at work that I cannot solve. Often times in the night, I will finally figure out that it is a dream and I can let it go and get some decent sleep, or Go fully lucid and have a little fun!

What kind of evil things could you do to your patrons if you exercised a little dream control over them? =P

A few days ago I had my 2nd "lucid" dream.
I was at school, in class with some of my friend. We were talking about something, and I decided to take a reality check for no particular reason. My logic told me that there's no way in hell that this is real, since I'm on my summer break from school. This is where I turned "lucid". I remember trying to fly for a few seconds, but I'd failed. So in a desperate attempt to fly, I jumped through a big window that was right behing me. This is a big "no-no" in LD's.
So you can say that in a way I had given up the lucidity too and "went back to sleep". Why ? Don't know. I wasn't thinking very clearly, and I assume you weren't too. So don't get all bummed about it, just keep trying
      Good luck.

      Thanks

      I appreciate the responses....

Like I said, I never really thought of these dreams as lucid because I always thought the term "lucidity" implied being able to remain in the dream and/or being able to exert some form of control over it.

I've started keeping a dream journal and I plan on perhaps watching out for "problem patron" situations as dream signs.

And, paranormal, looking back I think you're right ... I just wasn't thinking clearly (and had not yet become interested in LDs) ... I think the overwhelming sensation is one of relief: "Oh, excellent ... this isn't real ... I can just walk away from this patron...."

Yeah, I think 'lucid' merely means that you're aware that its a dream. This has happened to me in a similar way to you, but it was really bizarre, because I realised I was dreaming. I specifically remember knowing it was a dream, but just continuing on, as if I didn't care.

I knew I was lying in my bed and was imagining cuddling a person. That person I knew didn't exist, even though I could feel the person that I was cuddling. But I didn't seem to care that it was a dream. It was a kind of semi-realisation.

Definitely lucidity! And there are many techniques shown on the forum for prolonging LDs. I used to have this kind of dream alot waking from nightmares or stressful dreams after realising I was dreaming. I would then always feel dissapointed in myself for 'running away', until I learnt how to go back into the dream (using WILD type methods) or staying there. Then there are several options:

What kind of evil things could you do to your patrons if you exercised a little dream control over them? =P[/b]
or perhaps exploring ways to learn how to deal with awkward people that could carry over into waking life. Ways which diffuse the situation, or that help you to deal with these people without getting stressed. Why do they get to you? In an LD you can try ways of approaching this that you couldnt in the situation itself, or even on the psychologist's couch, like: taking them flying, making love with them etc....
