I've had a couple lucid dreams before by just realizing I was dreaming. But none in a while. I read this post and tried it a few nights ago. I woke up early in the morning, stayed up for about an hour, then remembered I wanted to try this and didn't have to be at work unil 1pm. So I went back to bed, layed there and told myself I was going to lucid dream. Then I started imagining what kind of lucid dream I wanted to have. After imagining having a lucid dream I started imagining walking through my house, opening the front door, running down the street...didn't start lding. Then I imagined running through my backyard, jumping the fence and running through the neighborhood, then next thing I knew I was dreaming and in some building and I realized I was dreaming. I flew through the ceiling and in the air and then after a little while it faded. So it was kinda like your experience. I'm sure I just fell asleep after imaging all that then in my dream I realized I was dreaming because I was thinking about dreaming so much.

Thanks for the great idea. I tried it last night and had great success. I didn't use my current home but one that I lived as a boy for over ten years. The first scene was my staircase which I had to go to street level three flights down. When I got to the street I played on (my block) It looked as it did when I lived there many years ago but empty of people and no autos parked on street, completly isolited but extreamly clear and bright. Amazing! The rest of the dream was not too bright and somewhat dissapointing as I didn't have too much control or any at all, I'm working on this issue. Thanks, sea bee (a sailor forever)

hi i haven't been into lucid dreams now for a while and was thinking about trying again starting tonight after reading this post. it seems to have a lot of success and it really makes sense to me.

i remember reading about other VILD techniques that would tell you to imagine as vividly as possible some crazy elaborate valley and feel every sense in your body at once. i'm not that good at visualizing like that so it didn't work well for me. visualizing a place that is incredibly familiar to you makes sense. if you're tired it should come easily if you know the place well rather then having to force your self to create an unfamiliar scene. i'll try this tonight and hopefully tell everyone how it goes

k so i have tried this a couple of times, ill wake up after a dream, remember about this then start visualizing walking around my house. What i do is i think about walking around. Should this be in my head or should i be trying to put the images infront of my eyes? also i feel like i nothing starts to shift. I feel like it should be obvious that things are starting to become a dream state because it engulf me kind of. Any suggestions?

It usually happens in the morning so you need like at least 6hrs of sleep.

You have to wake up during a brief awakening.

While im in bed i just imagine jumping over my neighbours fence and running in through the alley way to the front yard. Once i make it to the front yard im already lucid.

Ive tried other scenes to start my lucid dream but they dont work. I think that your backyard/frontyard are ingrained in your subonicous so its really easy to imagine them with minimum effort.

So my front yard ends up being my lucid loading dock, or centre of my lucid universe.
interestingly similar to my best way of gtting lucid. I find myself with my eyes closed in bed after a dream, and I just start walking and often wind up on the street in front of my house.

Man, I just can't seem to get this. I lose my concentration every time, and then drift off to sleep with an empty mind...

Either that, or I try so hard to concentrate that I don't get back to sleep.

I kept waking up randomly last night, and one time I remembered this method. I never opened my eyes or moved. I visualized myself getting out of bed and running through the house. By the time I got to the door, I could actually feel the doorknob and the wind. The last thing I remember is jumping off of the back porch. I'll try this again tomorrow.

I tried this method this morning and it worked for me!

This isn't surprising, since 90% of the time I try a new technique, it works (maybe because I get so excited and optimistic). The real test will be whether I can get it to work long term.

Anyway, here's how it happened for me. I woke up at around 8 AM, still very sleepy. I started to visualize myself getting out of my bed, walking out my front door, down the stairs, and to the parking lot. At that point, my visualization got a little more real, if you know what I'm saying. I could tell a dream had taken over.

When I moved to do a nose reality check, my physical body moved slightly, so I remained still for a minute. When I went to do the RC again, this time I was lying in my bed (instead of standing outside), but still dreaming. I kept my "dream-eyes" closed for a while, still breathing through my nose. After about half a minute, I opened my dream-eyes again and the dream world was stable.

LOL! I'm exactly the same way!!

Almost every technique or CD induction that I use works the first time.. it's repeating that success that's rare.

When you awaken during your brief awakening you should be really tired and not think too much (as if you don't care if this technique will work or not). The key is to be tired and mentally calm.

This is the hard part, where you either screw up or succeed. Its kind of hard for me to explain, but Your visualization should require no effort at all like your imagery you see when you first go to bed at night. Don't struggle and put all your mental powers and concentration in visualization, it will only keep you awake.

Its kind of hard to explain but you got to effortlessly visualize as if theres no pressure on you. Its ironic the harder you try and visualize, the more likely it wont work.

well the problem for me is I am never really in that could-fall-asleep-in-ten-seconds state unless i know i have to get up, like before school. When my alarm goes off to get up, i literally can just close my eyes thinking "ill just lay here for a minute" and then thats the last thing i remember after i wake up twenty minutes later. However i find it very hard to "replicate" this feeling. If i wake up in the middle of the night, there isn't an urgency for sleep, i know i still have like 2-4 hours or so. Any suggestions?

The only problem I have with this method is that it forces me to choose between recording my dreams and attempting to have a lucid dream.

What I mean is, this method only works for me when I fall back asleep very quickly after waking. I keep a tape recorder beside my bed so I can describe my dreams during the night, but I've found if I do that, it wakes me up too much to apply this method. So I can either record my normal dreams or roll the dice and try for a lucid. It's a tough call when I've just had a really awesome dream.

this is probably the only time you shouldnt record your dream in any way or form. Your focus should be on doing the technique

this sort of method works for me all the time, I seriously recommend you just try it, and juut write down your dream later.

I would say sleep longer. Absolutely.
My lds that happen with this method are virtually always after at least 8 hours sleep. Because you need that going-in-and-out-of sleep which you won't get until after that first big block of sleep. You know what I mean?

After waking up during brief awakenings for a while you get a feel for which brief awakenings are good. and some as you say you feel really awake and seems as if you cant go to sleep quick. Usually the later your brief awakening the faster they are and the more tired you are

like last night i had a couple of brief awakenings, some of them didnt feel like it would work out well if I used the technique.

The one that did work, I imagined being in the Superspeedway and getting ready to drive an F1. As I visualized looking at the fans they are started to cheer themselves and I knew the dream took over. As soon as the dream started I jumped in the car and floored it!!

      Its pretty intense going 230mph!
