Thread: 'Thin' dreams

G'day,

Last night I had an annoying experience.

I was having a dream which wasn't very clear or deep. I only remember one image - and it is in tunnel vision (I barely have any peripheral vision, meaning there are barely any surroundings).

I realised that it was a dream, I could kind of influence the dream but I wasn't IN the dream. I'm afraid that if I think too hard, then I might end up losing the dream, sitting in my bed and only visualising the dream.

These are really annoying. Does anyone else have experience with them?

Yeah, I've experienced those too. I had one recently where I walked up to a cheerleader and hugged her, but that was all that I remember. I don't think that it's a problem with dream recall either, since mine is normally great. Also, have you ever noticed how even when you don't remember a dream, you still have a feeling that you had one? Anyway, I'm probably going to start rambling soon, so I'll wait for more replies.

Well my definition of 'thin' lucid dreams is kind of what Lewis said:

My definition ...
A lucid dream where you can feel yourself struggling to maintain the dream and its intricacies. I literally feels like the layer between waking and dreaming is 'thinner' than it should be for the subconscious/brain power required to keep the dream fully engaging.

Something like that.

PS: I apologise if this steps on someone elses preconceived definition of 'thin' dreams. I came up with this description on my own

i know that feeling, i sometimes wake up in a really happy mood or really serious mood and dont remember my dreams that night and just assume its from the tone of the dream i just had.

Yep, I have a lot of such dreams... and even tho I know it's a dream, i cant do anything, as it will wake me up...

today I tried to say "it's a dream" , and I think I gained few seconds of lucidity, but I lost it

I think i know exactly how you feel.

Most of my dreams are in 3rd person. And during some of those dreams, i am not active in any way IN the dream...perhaps i have influence, but sometimes it seems like i'm watching a very interactive movie.

That has happened to me, also. I can remember tiny bits like a sentance that I said or a feeling but I can't remember anything else. Most of my dreams are in 3rd person, also (Except when I was crashing into trees...o.o;
