I've been meaning to try this. I'm sure it will give good results, i just need to actually be bothered to do it. Maybe i'll start doing it from now on
Or maybe i won't, i'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, eh...i haven't done it once today. Lol.

I've remembered like 5 times a minute after i've walked through a door, like -- "Oh crap! Reality check!"

Yeah... I actually made that. Haha it's my youtube claim to fame- but a lot of people don't understand it and are like "WTF?"

The video is supposed to just be a "supplement" to help you start the habit of doing reality checks whenever you walk through doorways. Watching the video will do nothing for you, unless you are actually trying create a habit.

CAUTION: Remember to actually do reality checks whenever you walk through a doorway. If you are constantly saying "Is this a dream? No", then the "No" will carry over into the habit. In other words, you do not want to get into a dream, walk through a doorway and go "Is this a dream? No." So just remember to ALWAYS follow through with a full reality check when you walk through those doorways.

Most people agree, it is EXTREMELY hard to remember to do reality checks when you walk through doorways. This is because everyone walks through doorways so many damn times every minute of every day. It's an extremely hard habit to start. HOWEVER, that's why it is such a good way to lucid dream. If you succeed at making the habit- you will most likely have several lucid dreams every night.

Remember, you want to make it a habit. It needs to be second nature. And you need to do a real reality check each time.

my first i think...Its good if youv got the habit down

I imagine it would be an effective reality check but somehow I prefer something more "ultimate", independent of the situation.

But, aye, StJohnny, how did you not go insane while recording all that?
And more so, what did people think when they saw you walking through doors saying "reality check"?

actually Merlock...i read somewhere else you were struggling with getting lucid? (if not...my mistake)

the beauty of this RC is...well, lets say you must pass through atleast ONE door everynight in your dreams.

This does not rely on spotting a dreamsign. simply building a habit, which you can incubate in real life, so it becomes so habitual it continues. A door is not unusual. so common its a great dreamsign, just takes practice to remember... doorway...reality check....doorway....reality check.

just my opinion, like I said...i think this got me my first LD

      edit:

in fact, I just thought combining this with "Dream Yoga" http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=34263
      could wield some good results.
because you will train yourself to be conscious enough to know when you go through a door everytime

i like this idea so much, its my lucid project for this week

I actually filmed the video(s) first and then dubbed my voice over later, haha. I filmed the whole thing on my college campus.

I actually had this habit going for a while, and it was great, but school got intense and I stopped working on lucid dreaming for a while. I'm starting the habit back up again and will hopefully keep it permanently this time. Seriously though, this habit is a bitch to try to start- but it pays off.

Also, for my reality checks, I just do a simple cognitive questioning one. In other words, when I walk through a door I just quickly think to myself "Is this a dream? Where am I now? Where was I before? Where am I going? What day/time is it?"

This way I don't actually have to plug my nose, look at a clock, try to push my finger through my hand, etc, every time I walk through a door. It can be tiring to have to honestly ask myself all of that, but it's a sure way to stay calm and really assess whether I'm dreaming or not.

I have missed 2 or 3 doorways so far and that's only half the day. This will prove challenging.

Well, you don't have to literally have that specific internal dialog going. All you need to do is make sure you really think about things like where you are and what your doing, etc. Just make an effort to be really aware and think about those things for a second.

A lot of my friends play this one game whenever they are in the car. This is how it works: Whenever a car passes us that has one headlight out, whoever taps the car ceiling first wins. So basically, everyone is trying to be the best and quickest to react when a car with one headlight goes by.

That game is hard in the same way that this technique is hard. You want to work on this technique and get it so that doing a reality check is completely reflexive and instinctual whenever you walk through a doorway.

In terms of psychology, the act of walking through a doorway is the stimulus, and you are trying to condition yourself to have a reality check response every time you experience the stimulus. The stronger and more instinctual/reflexive/automatic/habitual you can condition yourself, the better it will work. Just remember to never let your answer of "no, this is reality" to become part of the habit!

Okay I write too much. Good luck.

I often focus less on the act of walking through a doorway, and more on the feeling of entering into a new room through the doorway. I hope that makes sense. I think when it gets down to it, stuff like that is really just personal preference.
