      Crossing that threshold

      Hey

So, i've been trying out a few LD techniques and WILD seems the most comfortable for me at the moment.

It works for me since every time I try it I never lose consciousness. I always reach the point where i'm getting that sensation of "drifting into sleep".

My problem is that I always snap out of it. I have mentioned this in the newbie forum already. And I know that with practise I might be able to allow myself to.. Keep drifting into it without having my focus break the whole thing.

But i'm not sure what to do when I reach this point. What do I focus my mind on?

Usually I just keep counting my breaths or repeating whatever mantra I used to reach the "threshold". But I usually end up focusing on the sensation. that rush of energy and light that comes over me. Which makes me analyze it and eventually I end up focusing on my limbs, which by that time feels numb and tense. and ultimately I either "accidentally" move a limb and snap out of it.

One thing to note is that I don't really get any HI's. Or atleast I dont think so.. I dont get any vivid imagery to focus on. I just get a strange feeling that I'm starting to drift off somewhere.

So any advice on this matter would be greatly apreciated. I'm very determined to keep on practising, but I just want to know HOW to go about it, so I dont do it "the wrong way" so to speak

Wilding through HI is almost impossible for me.

I have had good success just by laying very still, timing my breaths and counting: one, I'm dreaming (breathe in) two, I'm dreaming (breathe out), etc.

If I start losing my place, that's a good sign and means I need to really be paying attention. It's hard to describe what happens next, but it is a sort of "shift" feeling - things will just suddenly feel different. That means it's time to do a Reality Check and find out I'm dreaming.

I've only been successful by trying to stay conscious through HI a couple times. It is a lot of fun, because HI is a real kick if you can observe it - but it's quite an art to slide into the scene. For me, it involves actually "letting go" and falling asleep for a moment - and hoping you'll recover your lucidity once you cross over.

Look in the tutorials for Clairity's WILD technique. She's really the master of that one, and is extremely helpful if you have any questions.

Do you do this reality check even if you see pitch black on the insides of your eyelids?

      Absolutely.

It is a FEELING - a sort of "shift." It is hard to describe, but once you experience it, you'll know.

Ok thanks. I think i have expeirinced this but i just didn't do the reailty check. When you feel this shift do you feel that your hands begin to float and can pass right through your body?

This isn't a hijack! You're right on topic.

Yes. That is one thing that happens. It sometimes feels like a sort of vibration... other times as if I'm just floating or sinking into whatever I'm laying on. The feeling varies, but it is always recognizable.

      I can't - maybe you'll find things different.

Every time I do this, I end up getting up from where I'm laying and having to GO somewhere. If I hadn't RC'd, it would result in a false awakening, because that's just what it is like.

It is something that I think a lot of people confuse with Astral Projection or OBEs.

This morning, I walked out of the house one time onto the street I know. The next time I walked out through a side wall into an amusement park. Other times I've spun to transport, or gone outside and flown wherever I wanted to go.

Perhaps you'll find a way to jump right into a dream scenario. That is the one big catch I have with WILDing like this. It works - but it leaves me to still have to "get to" wherever I want to go.

ok i see. but when you wake up into your dream do you see your body in your bed still? i was just wondering because of the comment you made about astral projection and oobe. Also do you do this method when you first go to sleep or do you have more sucsess when you wake up after a certain length of time.

      Always WBTB for me.

I've had it happen both ways - getting up "out of my body" and seeing it laying there still, and getting up completely.

focus your mind on anything but WILDing or how close you are. Push those thoughts to the back of your mind. Thinking about how close you are to WILDing is bad because everytime you do, you wake yourself up a little bit. Its hard to do at first, but eventually it gets easier.

Na man you actually asked alot of questions i've been wondering about too.

Thanks for the insight pj. I try to go about it the same way you do. I guess i'm just a little too impatient, and get too damn excited when i'm nearing success

      Thanks for the advice.
I kind of suck when it comes to focusing my mind on a specific thing. It kind of goes where it wants to go. Maybe because i've always been extremely curious about everything. Like, whenever I spot something unsual my mind goes "ooooh what's THIS!" and starts analyzing *shrugs* but i'm trying to get some discipline over this.

Maybe meditation would be something to practise alongside WILDing?

Just last night I ALMOST had a successfull WILD. The only problem was that out of the blue this DC pops up real angry asking me "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT?!?" When I was trying to "spot" HI Scared the hell out of me

Well i did it, thanks pj. I woke up around 5:00 from a dream and i just lied there thinking about the dream and how bizzare it was. then like 10 seconds after that i felt that "shift" and i found my self in a mall of all places and looked at my hand and they had 6 fingers. I then proceeded to jump and fly for a breif second. all in all the lucidity last for about 5 minutes id say. But thanks again pj, i really this helps me out alot.

You really should thank Clairity. She's the one who taught me that the HI method isn't the only way to WILD.

      Congratulations, and many happy returns!
