Failed WILD attempt: What Did I Do Wrong?

I tried a WILD last night. Weird results, but I got farther than ever. I did the usual stuff, laying there with my eyes closed, without moving. I felt my body getting heavier and I started seeing some HI. I started to feel pressure building on/in my head, and my sense of sound changed a little. The HI got pretty crazy, but nothing really formed. I started counting "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming...". At one point, it felt like my eyes started flexing, like they were trying to push through my eyelids. At the same time, My neck muscles became tense and I started to feel some discomfort. The HI I was seeing started to get some color; more specifically, there was a blotch of green on the right side of my vision. I figured it was a dream forming, so I started trying to focus on the texture of a wooden table, trying to make one form. I also tried to "step" into the dream or pull it to me. Nothing changed. The feelings went away for the most part, and they came back a few different times. Nothing. I thought that maybe I could be in a dream, so I tried pushing my tongue through my teeth or the top of my mouth, but the RC failed. I slowly opened my eyes a little, enough to see that I was still in my bedroom. I tried one last test and tried to breathe while holding my nose, but that failed too.

I finally gave up and moved to my normal sleeping position. Trying to move my body was like trying to get out of quicksand, partly because my body was tired from working out, and partly because I was so close to SP. I checked my clock and I had been trying for a little over an hour...

What happened? Is my only chance going to lie with WBTB?

EDIT: I also felt some occasional vibrations, and I guess that alteration of my hearing was the white noise sound.

It's very hard to WILD without WBTB. The first REM periods are after an hour and a half of sleep (if I remember correctly) so you'd have to stay conscious until then.

Also, focusing on the HI usually makes it go away permanently. Try not to focus on it.

Yeah, I know about the HI part, I look straight ahead when the HI comes. I just see them peripherally. As for the WBTB, I guess I'll try that tomorrow night since it seems to be my last option to make it work.

In thinking about it, I think I realized that I may not have been relaxed enough when the transition phase started to come on. My eyes started twitching rapidly and like I said, my neck started to tense.
