From what I understand, SP occurs to everyone every night when we sleep without us being conscious of it and is therefore by definition, non-random. However, I must agree with Luminous, that the ability to stay conscious going into SP may very well be an individual skill (many times aquired and honed like LDing, sometimes being natural). This I believe, includes middle-of-the-day SPs. I am certain they can occur for some people, but it could be difficult for most. In my personal experience, I have found SP often conciously experienced while going into a WBTB WILD, and funny enough, I ALWAYS exit my LDs back into SP and stay there for a little while. Truly, I am glad my physical body is slower to come out of the dream, because it allows me to enjoy experimenting in SP. It is fun for me to determine.... well, without sounding like too much of a nerd.... the physics of SP (how things react for me, etc). It has always been a fun, peaceful experience for me.... although, I hear from a coworker that he gets some wicked angry people yelling obscenities at him during his SP! Yikes! That's gotta be rough! Have fun!
