1. Yes. You should DJ no matter what. I have gone on and off, and although it takes more work and effort, as well as snatching up to a good 15 minutes of my early morning activities, I always end up thankful that I've gotten back into it after taking a break from it. If you have trouble remembering dreams sometimes, then journaling will help you fill in those gaps, and you'll get to the point where you can only write down the important parts of a dream because there's too many dreams with too much substance to write down without getting a bad writers cramp.
2. The one thing that comes to my head is caffeine. I know of a few others, but the names escape me and they're some over the counter drugs. Perhaps you could have a good cup of green tea before bed. It will probably help you sleep lighter, which will result in more REM sleep for you, so more dreams. Also, it sounds like you might be using your phone for an alarm, because you talked about putting it under your pillow and on vibrate (two things you can't really do with an alarm clock ). I'd get an alarm clock. If you can get one that gets FM or AM radio, then go to a frequency with no station so you only hear the static (white noise), then that would be best. The white noise tends to play softer on your ears, yet is enough to wake you up. It isn't as harsh as a beeping noise, and not as distractive as people talking or music. Since it's softer, it probably won't inhibit your recall as much as an alarm would.
3. Good luck for us both!
