      2.5 lucids out of nowhere

Ok so here is my story. I haven't had a lucid dream since I was a kid! A kid, mind you! That was about 10 years ago(I'm 19 now). So about 3 weeks ago I found out about lucid dreaming and found this forum etc. I tried to obtain a lucid every night for about 2 weeks and was unsuccessful. So then I took a break from this whole lucid thing about a week ago and pretty much put it in the back of my head to call upon later. Last night, not thinking about lucids one bit, I went to bed and in a dream I became lucid. There wasn't anything particular that I know of that triggered this in my dream. One second I was dreaming, then it hit me that I was in a dream (just like it used to when I was a kid).

After becoming lucid I rushed into things, as I always do, and tried to fly. I only ended up jumping and then fluttering down slowly. I noticed everything was very fuzzy and non-vivid and I remembered reading on this forum to try spinning around to increase detail. So I spun around and that helped things a bit. After that I tried to fly again with a little more success. Then at some point I lost lucidity.

I have my alarm set for 12:30 PM (yeah I like to sleep in late). And when the alarm went off, I got out of bed, turned it off, and then went back to bed, as is my custom. It's here that I had my second lucid.

I was sitting with my brother and a couple friends, and one of my friends started attacking me. I started blocking everything perfectly like the ninja that I am, and my brother was like "Woah! Your a ninja man! How do you do that?!". So I started telling him about the wonderful world of lucid dreaming and how anything is possible, and then after saying that, I remembered that I was in a dream. I became lucid at that point, but here is the most bizarre thing... I didn't WANT to be lucid, so I willed myself to wake up. I have no idea why I didn't want to be lucid at the time, but that at least proves that even though I was lucid, I was nowhere near fully conscious. When I woke up, it was 12:50 PM.

After I woke up, I was really curious as to why/how I had 2 lucids so easily after years of not having 1. So I started thinking about what could have triggered this. The only 2 things I came up with were:
      1) I usually wear my contacts to bed and keep them in for a month or so, but last night, I went to sleep without my contacts in.
      2) I wasn't expecting or trying for a lucid.

It's number 2 that got to me. Have you ever had something you tried so hard to remember, but couldn't and then a few minutes or hours later, it just hits you? I think that lucids can work the same way. In other words, for certain people, it may be easier to obtain a lucid by simply letting it come instead of trying to force it. This does not mean to drop reality checks and dream journals, but simply when you go to bed, clear your mind and don't think in the manner that I used to think which is do or die.

I was really curious about all of this, so at about 4:00 PM I took a nap to see what would happen. The dream that I had was long and fragmented, however, there was something different about this dream than the usual ones I have. I was aware that I was in a dream. I'm not sure if this would be considered a lucid or not, but I consider it half a lucid anyway, because although I was aware that I was dreaming, I didn't take control of the dream. However I did do things that I wouldn't usually do in a dream as I felt there would be no consequence.

So if you have read this far, thanks for reading and I would like to ask:
has anyone else had an experience like this of trying so hard to become lucid, and then having it just fall in your lap one night?

that's great that you're starting to lucid dream again! anyway, that's how I got my first lucid. I was practically obsessed with lucid dreaming the first 2 months that I learned about it, each night getting more and more frustrated until I felt like it was hopeless. So I forgot about it for a while and voila! my first lucid!

lagunagirl - thanks for the comment. Yeah the more I read other people's experiences, the more I see the connection. It seems like there are people who are able to LD easily, but I believe they are able to do so because they take it as it comes and don't force it on themselves. Other people I see that try to force it just end up getting more frustrated as I did. From now on my approach will be to do reality checks and keep a dream journal, which should keep LDing in my subconscious mind, while attempting to limit the obsession in my conscious mind.

Soldier - That's not really my goal right now, but I guess it is my long term goal. If I can achieve it someday, then I will be a happy man (though I'll probably be 90 by that time). And I don't know why I left my lucid dream . I was mad at myself after I woke up... But I was sure at the time I had a reason.
