      So close...

I've been using the FILD technique to obtain lucidity, but have only had but so much luck. The scenario plays out like this: I set up my night stand (Juice, Dj, etc.), then I lay down get into a state of complete relaxation, and start tapping my fingers (not too hard; just enough to "wiggle the keys on your key board"). After a while, I can feel my eyes start to bounce around in my head, and I start seeing some random pictures (stairs, walkways, hallways, dirt paths, etc.) and then, I start thinking "Here it is! I'm getting closer!" then I guess the excitement wakes me up... I repeat this process numerouse times, then eventually find myself waking up. I try not to think about it when I start to cross over, but I can't help it. *shrugs* Any ideads?

all i can say is that you just have to be able to keep yourself from being excited. Just relax, breathe. There's really no other way than self control.

Yeah, your experiencing a lot of hypnagogic imagery. That stuff is pretty fascinating. I usually wake up from those too. When are you doing it?
If your trying to do it when you first fall asleep, you may want to try it after sleeping for a few hours first. Then you will have a better chance of getting more fully into the dream. And yeah, you do have to try and stay calm. easier said than done though I know.

      Welcome to Dream Views!

Yea, I've been trying to do it right when I fall asleep, fully aware that it's better to do after a while. I'm just lazy, plus if I set my alarm, my baby will wake up and not go back to sleep lol. Anyways, thanks for the welcome and at least trying to help. I figured there was no easy help for this.

Dank, one thing I could suggest is dont start moving your fingers so early, for me I usually have one or two brief awakenings a night without thinking about it, if you do to.. then try it then.

If you dont, and have to do it at night before you fall asleep, then just wait untill you are almost gone, maybe once you start seeing all the HI, begin moving your fingers.. hopefully you will be able to shift your focus to that, off the HI (Which in turn will also help you.. not get to excited from the images, because you wont be paying much attention to em). The thing about FILD for me is just that if i sit there for more then a few minutes, it becomes so repetitive that you dont think about it anymore, which makes it next to useless.. My mind will either be not focusing on anything and cause me to go to sleep regularly, or in your case.. you will begin to pay to much attention to the HI, get excited, and "wake up".

I would say if your moving your fingers for any more then 30 secs or 1 minute.. then just stop, wait till your closer to sleep.. and try again.

You may have problems trying to judge at first, but as time goes on.. you'll get more and more used to it. Best of luck, just keep trying
