      "Pop" trying to WILD?

Last night I tried a WILD/HIT (didn't work this time), and at one point I heard something that sounded like a loud 'pop' in my room, which may or may not have originated near the outside-facing wall. I felt like I was "deeper inside my head" at that point (besides being a bit nervous because of the noise and the uncertainty of its origin), though I'm not sure if the sound was real or not.

Is this normal when trying to WILD? Or am I just going loopy? Or maybe something really did make the noise?

Good to see someone else trying the HIT technique and failing, proves I'm not the only one. But seriously, don't worry, this takes practice. And that popping noise, there's alot of random strange noises you hear when trying to WILD, so I'm guessing it's pretty normal.

      Haha.

I had a similar experience when I first joined this site. I had a strange popping in my head (not sure if I actually heard or just felt it) as I realized I was dreaming. It was like something snapped and all of the sudden I was floating away from my body in full lucid dream.

Not sure if it's normal but the lucid dream I had after that pop was incredibly vivid. FOr me I think it was a good thing, maybe a symbolic breaking of some barrier that was holding me back LD-wise? It hasn't happened since.

Maybe it's a good sign. Or maybe it was just some Hypnogogic sound instead of imagry. Next time try to hang on past the sound and maybe you'll find yourself drifting into a fully lucid dream as I did.

I started out using the HIT technique. It worked awesomely for me.

Yeah I think its normal from what I've had before - really loud noises. So just keep trying but check anything in your room/wherever you sleep that potentially could make that popping noise and good luck.

Yeah, for just a brief moment, I felt as if my consciousness were "sinking" deeper into my head and I felt as if I was in a neutral orientation (not lying down), but I was freaked out (from the noise) to the point where I wasn't able to hold it.

Didn't happen to me; my dream wasn't that vivid but it DID remind me of the other dream I had the day before that I forgot when I just wrote down a cryptic note in my DJ (I've also been trying to use the NST, and I was a bit desparate to remember my dream, as I've been getting a little foggy on rememberence the last couple of days [I don't know if it's me switching techs, or because I put the DJ entries off for a few hours those days]; so I guess I spent a whole dream reminding myself of the other dream ).

Up until now I've been trying to use MILD, but it hasn't worked that well. My two (or one?) lucids were right at the beginning of my efforts to become lucid before I even used any techniques and just wrote in a DJ. *shrug* Maybe I'm trying too hard.

I'm not sure that the sound was part of the process but just a sound from something else in your room. For me, weird sounds during wilding are soft screeching, and sometimes when I'm very tired, muttered random dialogue, but never loud popping.

I've heard a lot of weird hypnagogic sounds. Screeching, whooshing, pops, bangs, voices.

But, I would still check the tires on my car the next morning before driving to work. You never know...
