      Question on WILD

I've attempted several different methods of attaining WILD, but I think I've come to a block at the point of the transition between wake and dream.

My problem is that when I get to a point where I start feeling disconnected from my body, I experience an intense static-like feeling. It's at the point where any WILD guide tells you to expect a "tingling sensation", but is more severe then they indicate, and grows in strength as time goes by.

Is this normal? My logical mind usually convinces myself that I'm not breathing right or something, and that I'll pass out if I try to ride it out. Needless to say, just thinking that is enough to break any effort into obtaining a WILD. Let me know what you think, advice from people that know what they're talking about should be enough to put my subconscious (and conscious) fears to rest.

Sounds to me you've successfully hit SP (sleep paralysis). SP varies greatly. Some only ever get little tingly feelings. Others feel like they are tied to the mast of a ship in the middle of a hurricane. Often I feel like I'm falling out of bed. The sensations of SP often intensify until the point where you enter the dream and you no longer feel it. So, the intense static sensation that grows stronger is very normal. Despite what your body may be telling you, you are fine. Just try to relax and ride it out. You are so close!

Just FYI, you may also see or hear stuff that isn't real while trying to WILD. This is called HI (hypnogogic illusion) or HH (hypnogogic hallucination). Many people never experience this, but I'm telling you so if it happens you won't freak out. This is all also very normal and nothing to worry about. Just relax, be calm, and know you are very close to a successful WILD.

All of the SP, HI stuff is normal and nothing to worry about. You are super close!!

      Good luck!

A problem of mine with WILD's is the fact that my mind is too clear and it ruins my attempt to let my body go to sleep, while my mind slips into a dream. I guess to phase out the part, where you get distracted by your rationale, you should focus your mind on something. Not to harsh though, because then you will never fall asleep! Just pay attention to your breathing as your body gets paralyzed (sounds kind of scary when I put it that way). Or what I usually do is counting or throwing in some lines, like: "I will fall asleep consciously" or "My body goes asleep, while I enter a lucid dream" (times as many as necessary). Anything like that will do, as long as you totally relax your body and find the subtle line between focussing 'too much' and focussing 'too little'.

When you are that close, you can, again, breath deeply. You can focus on your breathing pattern and take full, regular breaths, without the risk of waking up. This way you can make sure that everything is going well, and repeat this every time, until your fixation ends. When you are in that state, turn your eyes upward and condense your body awareness in a point just above your head and paralysis will set in in seconds.

Thanks everyone, this really helped. I now don't seem to have any problems reaching SP in 20ish minutes, barring distractions (I have a roommate, talking in sleep is brutal on concentration). I have a couple questions about progressing further.

1.) Am I at SP? I'd like to verify that I'm actually at sleep paralysis, and that I wasn't just distracted by the transition back to being nearly awake. After the whole "tingling sensations" phase of SP, my mind can be incredibly clear, but I no longer have any real, "awareness" of my body. It's tough to describe, I'm still aware of my breathing, heartbeat, etc, but I've never been bothered by an itch or notice feeling in my limbs at this point, and outside noise can be heard, but isn't a distraction.

2.) If I've reached the point of SP, what state of mind should I be going for to slip into a dream? Past posts have already said that I shouldn't be trying to have too clear of a mind, but that I can't focus too little or I'll just sleep. My problem now is that most guides seem to be based on reaching SP, and seem to just say you'll drift into a dream at that point, which hasn't been the case for me.

Note- I've only attempted Wild before I go to sleep at night. Could you let me know if this is a large part of my problem?
