I'd say before you go trying to lucid dream and make things confusing, read up on it as much as you can, then figure out exactly how you want to go about it. For example, if you wake up randomly during the night, you should try FILD. Or if you have a pretty consistent sleeping pattern and don't mind waking up for a while in the night, you could try WBTB.
It also may be a good idea to improve on recall and write in your dream journal until you can remember quite a few details of a dream. Write in it every time you remember a dream, even if all you can remember is and emotion or color or word or something. It doesn't have to have a plot. There would be the most random things I would remember. One of my dream journal entries says nothing except "metal cylinder"
weird huh. i dont even know what it meant, or what it had to do with the dream I had, but if you can even get that much, the next time you might get a little more until you can remember a full dream.
but the main thing you want to do is find the technique that's right for you. It took me almost a year to figure out my best technique. Just stick with it and be patient. It may not even take that long for you.
