One of my most successful reality check methods involved carrying around
one of those tiny key ring torches during the day I would switch it on and off
a couple of time, I would do this several times throughout the day.

During a dream the torch would either fail to work totally or the light would
only be an orange glow. and on one or two occassions sparks came out of
      the front of the torch.

      Hope this info is usefull.

If you pay attention to whether or not your dreaming often, every day. eventually you will think about it when your in a dream. If you are also doing regular reality checks, hopefully you will remember to do one at the point you think about it in your dream, and get Lucid. Or maybe you won't even need the reality check.

Remember, you dream about the things you do and think about most often during the day. And also about the things you get excited about. So get excited about Lucid Dreaming, and keep the thought in the front of your mind that you could be dreaming right now, as often as you can. And stay alert to anything at all that seems out of place.

If you consistently do this, it's only a matter of time before you discover that you are in a dream.

I'd say before you go trying to lucid dream and make things confusing, read up on it as much as you can, then figure out exactly how you want to go about it. For example, if you wake up randomly during the night, you should try FILD. Or if you have a pretty consistent sleeping pattern and don't mind waking up for a while in the night, you could try WBTB.

It also may be a good idea to improve on recall and write in your dream journal until you can remember quite a few details of a dream. Write in it every time you remember a dream, even if all you can remember is and emotion or color or word or something. It doesn't have to have a plot. There would be the most random things I would remember. One of my dream journal entries says nothing except "metal cylinder"

weird huh. i dont even know what it meant, or what it had to do with the dream I had, but if you can even get that much, the next time you might get a little more until you can remember a full dream.

but the main thing you want to do is find the technique that's right for you. It took me almost a year to figure out my best technique. Just stick with it and be patient. It may not even take that long for you.

The best way to fall asleep with your mind awake.

Set your alarm clock +2hours or +3hours before going to sleep. You probally will wake up. Close the alarm clock then. Don't move anyting anymore after that. You are probally very tired. Just be layed down and keep your mind active. Don't concentrate to anyting, just be sure that you know you are awake. After waking beeing very tired you will fall asleep easly sometimes you can't start thinking because you falled asleep again. If you keep your mind awake you can feel how you entered a dream world. It was very frightening to me because i felt how i floated and how i've been pulled to nowere. I waked up but next time i try to not wake up.

Newbies should try this because when you are tired you will fall asleep very quickly. That period is the best for me because in this short of time i can keep my mind active easly.

My english is not soo good yet but i hope that you will understand my text.

You have to do reality checks A LOT to actually do them in a dream...i've had a couple times when i have gotten so mad in the morning when i've said... this may be a dream but i don't think so.....
      SO frustrating!
one thing that helped me (once i managed to do this) is to look around and say hmmm what would this be like if it were a dream? Would my P.E. teacher look like Brad Pitt?
the RC method is definetly not the best....
