      Attaining Lucidity... How?

      Hi everyone.

Just wondering about the actual attaining of Lucidity.

I've always said I don't dream but then I was told that evryone dreams you just have to remember them. So last night I tried and remembered one... I've read lots of Posts and Replys about attaing Lucidity but I still need help. People say most commonly realize your dreaming by preforming a simple reality check... How do I do that in a dream though? I can't seem to find my hands in my dreams, thus making it impossible to preform some of the reality check. Also I can't stop and think "Wait a giant sea snake... Yep I'm having a dream!"

Just wondering if any of you can help with any advice at all on a simple but most effective way to attain Lucidity.

      Thx for everyone who contributes!!!

www.dreamviews.com Read everything on the site, it's all very useful. If you have problems after that, then come to the message board. Not trying to be mean, but it's apparent that you're not familiar with the basics.

      In short...
It takes a lot of practice to be able to think to do a RC in a dream. If you have good dream recall already, then it's all about focussing on your goal before bed and during the day. Simple as that ( keeping a DJ too ). It seems slow and frustrating perhaps, but there's no trick, no shortcut. This information and a myriad of other useful tips are all on the main site.

      Good luck!

It's not about finding the reality check, it's about triggering yourself in the dream to do the check. For example you go into your bedroom or bathroom at night what is the first thing you normally do? Turn on a light! Use things like this to trigger yourself into doing reality checks. So whenever you turn on a light, do a reality check. In the dream you will do exactly the same thing after a while. Even if you don't dream of light switches you will eventually because you changed your day residue routine which is what dreams are made up of....

      Reality Checks

I think that is a excellent idea about the light switch ! !

My reality check involves pressing my index finger into the palm of my hand
as I say to my self "is this a dream". So during the day I do this many times "watching around to make sure no one is watching of course". Then when I am dreaming my finger passes through my hand. "No Pain" LOL !

Not sure what to do if you can't find or unaware of your hands in a dream.

Another thing that I am starting to combine is looking at my watch more than once as the read out is usually different both times or looks strange.

      Good Luck !

One of my most successful reality check methods involved carrying around
one of those tiny key ring torches during the day I would switch it on and off
a couple of time, I would do this several times throughout the day.

During a dream the torch would either fail to work totally or the light would
only be an orange glow. and on one or two occassions sparks came out of
      the front of the torch.

      Hope this info is usefull.

If you pay attention to whether or not your dreaming often, every day. eventually you will think about it when your in a dream. If you are also doing regular reality checks, hopefully you will remember to do one at the point you think about it in your dream, and get Lucid. Or maybe you won't even need the reality check.

Remember, you dream about the things you do and think about most often during the day. And also about the things you get excited about. So get excited about Lucid Dreaming, and keep the thought in the front of your mind that you could be dreaming right now, as often as you can. And stay alert to anything at all that seems out of place.

If you consistently do this, it's only a matter of time before you discover that you are in a dream.

I'd say before you go trying to lucid dream and make things confusing, read up on it as much as you can, then figure out exactly how you want to go about it. For example, if you wake up randomly during the night, you should try FILD. Or if you have a pretty consistent sleeping pattern and don't mind waking up for a while in the night, you could try WBTB.

It also may be a good idea to improve on recall and write in your dream journal until you can remember quite a few details of a dream. Write in it every time you remember a dream, even if all you can remember is and emotion or color or word or something. It doesn't have to have a plot. There would be the most random things I would remember. One of my dream journal entries says nothing except "metal cylinder"

weird huh. i dont even know what it meant, or what it had to do with the dream I had, but if you can even get that much, the next time you might get a little more until you can remember a full dream.

but the main thing you want to do is find the technique that's right for you. It took me almost a year to figure out my best technique. Just stick with it and be patient. It may not even take that long for you.

The best way to fall asleep with your mind awake.

Set your alarm clock +2hours or +3hours before going to sleep. You probally will wake up. Close the alarm clock then. Don't move anyting anymore after that. You are probally very tired. Just be layed down and keep your mind active. Don't concentrate to anyting, just be sure that you know you are awake. After waking beeing very tired you will fall asleep easly sometimes you can't start thinking because you falled asleep again. If you keep your mind awake you can feel how you entered a dream world. It was very frightening to me because i felt how i floated and how i've been pulled to nowere. I waked up but next time i try to not wake up.

Newbies should try this because when you are tired you will fall asleep very quickly. That period is the best for me because in this short of time i can keep my mind active easly.

My english is not soo good yet but i hope that you will understand my text.

You have to do reality checks A LOT to actually do them in a dream...i've had a couple times when i have gotten so mad in the morning when i've said... this may be a dream but i don't think so.....
      SO frustrating!
one thing that helped me (once i managed to do this) is to look around and say hmmm what would this be like if it were a dream? Would my P.E. teacher look like Brad Pitt?
the RC method is definetly not the best....

I think this is a bad technique, personally it had caused me a bit of grief until I stopped caring if people were wondering what I was doing. No one really cares if you are conducting reality checks, just tell them it is for a science project or something if anyone asks, or pretend you are scratching your palm.

But even so, if you incorporate being conscious of social consequences and worrying that someone will watch you every time you do a reality check, you may get into the habit of glancing for judging eyes every time you want to do an RC. If that's the case, then every time you want to do a RC in a dream, it is pretty likely that a judgmental dream character will be watching you and that will discourage you from conducting the RC.

And besides, what a good conversation starter! Or you may find a kindred spirit who recognizes what you are doing

Hmm. It has been sometime like years that i have not made any lucid dream. When i had my first lucid dreams I did not know of any of those techniques like reality checks. They just came and went away. Will start to try any of those techniques and see if i those lucid dreams come back again.
