Can't get past 1st lucid. sleep then wake up?

      Hey guys,

as some of you know (those who read the experiences forum) i had my first lucid last Saturday.

Well I have barely been able to remember my dreams since then and having trouble with content for the dream journal. I've actually been having trouble getting to sleep too. I have too many thoughts going on in my head.

Does going to sleep and waking up (by alarm clock) and going back to sleep help, because i remember the time i had my LD was a night i woke up early and fell BACK asleep. then i had the dream. Any help? thanks!

Some people know a lot more than I, and I tend to drift in and out (damn busy life), but I will say it sounds like you are off to a good start. I usually get about 1 lucid a week right now. If I lose focus (Like gaming sessions of Halo), I tend to have problems with recall. There are many options, but I believe that auto-suggestion is the most powerful form. I have 100% success with telling myself to remember my dreams. I may not remember all of them, but I will notice a difference in vividness.

With trouble falling asleep, meditation has been a miracle to me. I have learned to quiet my mind before sleeping, as I too used to have problems with insomnia.

Oh, and setting an alarm after sleeping for a while (5-6 hours generally) is called Wake Back To Bed (WBTB). I find it essential for lucid dreaming, some can without WBTB, but I can't. It is also the perfect time to practice WILD.

Well, I hope I answered some of your questions, and I'm sure there will be many others who will give you their methods as well. My best advice is to learn as much as possible and experiment with them to find what you are comfortable with.

      a) I have trouble getting to sleep when I've been lazy. If i dont give myself enough excercise, I take ages to get to sleep.

      b) The "sleep and wake up" as you refer is called "Wake Back To Bed". Its generalised used after 5-6 hours of sleep and combined with self-affirmations or WILD.

If you visit the tutorials section of this forum youll find LOADS...look for MILD, VILD, WILD type techniques.

WBTBs are generally more reliable and easier than RC techniques.

      Quality LD's: 16

thanks for the info guys. I bet i did the WBTB technique to achieve my first LD..i'll try it again tonight. WhiteLightSaber...i'd like to know what kind of meditation you do? Like counting...or what...i seem to always have thoughts about my thoughts of trying to sleep...even if i am counting or saying "sleep" or "calm" to myself repeatedly. I tend to get off track very easily.

I do a type of blue light meditation (I don't remember where I saw it), where you fill your body slowly from head to toe with "blue light". It basically relaxes my whole body. I have entered SP from this, and almost pulled a WILD. The main thing to remember is not to try and force your body to sleep. The more you think about falling asleep, the less likely you are going to. I usually use the time after meditating to focus lightly on auto-suggestion. This is the point where I remind myself to remember my dreams.

Counting also works wonders for me. I also find that if I play alot of video games or just laze around alot, I have a hard time sleeping. I usually get about 40 min of exercise in a day (usually cardio). If you need any more help, just let me know. I am also trying to learn dream yoga as well.
