      Question about first WILD

Today I attempted my first WILD, and I got extremely close. I felt vibrations throughout my whole body and it was really intense, but the thing I'm wondering about is my breathing got really rapid and my heart rate went through the roof. I kept trying to get through it but when my body had settled down again I was awake.

So I'm curious if anyone else has ever experienced something similar because I haven't heard of anything like it. And I'm also wondering if because I was so aware of my rapid breathing and heart rate, and somewhat unnerved by it, if that could have contributed to why I woke up instead of continuing into my dream.

      Any help?

This has happened to me before during WILDs as well, though, unfortunately, I don't know what exactly it's caused by.

I've also experienced the racing heart, rapid breathing problem with WILD. I've been on DV for a while and from what I've heard is it is pretty common.

It is very possible that your intense focus on the problem is what stopped you from getting into the dream. That has happened to me a few times.

To be honest, I'm not very good at WILD. I've only done it successfully about 8 times, and it hasn't seemed to get easier for me. My only advice is to try to focus on something else when the SP gets intense. I use counting to get through it. Maybe it will work for you, too.

      Good luck!

WILDing can be intense and it seems to be different every time, at least for me. You have to learn to tell yourself while staying very alert during the vibrations, loud noises, rapid heart beat, etc, that what's happening is normal and that everything's okay. Then it's much easier to jump/fall into a dream. Keep at it, sounds like you’re close!

Yea, I think just because I wasn't expecting the breathing stuff, it through me off, unlike the vibrations and eye movements that I had read about and knew were normal before hand.

this happened to me as well. i thought i was literally going to die if my heart kept pounding like it did. i heard somewhere on DV that this is all an illusion though, that your heart is actually beating normally and your breathing is fine too. i don't know whether or not that's true, because it seems so intense. BTW i was completely taken by surprise by it and it through me off the first time as well.

Your heart beating faster is what I like to call the "Pentacostal Church Effect". In Pentacostal churches in the US, people will go up to the stage/alter and basically get yelled at and groped and will have priests yelling scripture at them, and if they believe something is happening to them, they faint (and are "healed"...yeah right).

What might be happening to you is you start to feel sensations and you work yourself up. Learn to be bored with these sensations. Realize that they are temporary and only one small step along the way to a complete WILD.

I don't really think it was all in my head though because it took me a really long time in the relaxation part of it and I kinda blanked out for awhile cause I got tired of waiting. The heavy breathing is what brought me back and then that's when I started to feel the vibrations, ect...

But I'll definitely learn to ignore it, however I dont know that I could "get bored" of the sensations, ha, it's too exciting.

haha it WAS all in your head... ive experienced this almost everytime i try to WILD, and im pretty sure i WOULD die if my heart really was beating as fast as it felt like it was. i also get the feeling that im not breathing. at all. now how would i still be alive if everynight my lungs stopped breathing and my heart beat 100 times a second? lol.

and a VERY similar experience i had to yours where after i sat through all those sensations, it seemed like everything calmed down, and i was awake back in my bed. luckily for me, i decided id reality check for the hell of it, and i could breathe through my pinched nose! i then got up, and walked through my closet door into the vivid scenery of the legend of zelda the twilight princess. LOL

haha yea it was really weird. it felt like i never fell asleep at all or anything!!! that was like one of my favorite WILDs. it felt like i put no effort at all into it... lol. i started reality checking after everytime i wake up after that experience... haha it was like a false awakening without even dreaming before that. =p
