Am i on the right track to lucid dreaming?

Hey. Um Ive read a lot about lucid dreaming but i was never able to have a lucid dream ( that i could remember) I tried like 2 weeks ago SKIPPING the dream recall proccess( i really wanted a LD badly). but now im able to recall atleast 1 dream (with an alarm clock set acurately of course ) Now um what i tried doing about 40 miinutes ago was that i was kind of tired ( not super tired but the kind of boreed/ tired feeling you get when your not doing anything) so i went to my bed and closed my eyes and focused a lil bit on the darkness...So soon i felt my eyes moving rapidly for about 20 seconds and i started feeling a tigling senstation in my arms. While i started feeling the tingling sensation thats when I decided to imagine something. I imaged my friends talking and stuff..through parts of my imagining i forgot that i was awake and when i did i saw wierd shapes of all colours and stuff.

AM i getting closer to a LD??

What should i do or change?

and sorry if my post sounds uncleear. im tried

what do you do to get a lucid dream?

Well, I can't say you were lucid. Maybe you were hallucinating? If you were, then I think you're on the right track.

To become lucid, look at some of the guides around the main website and the forum. It tells you all about how to help you become lucid, dream control, etc. I'm sure you'll find it helpful.

But the trick I usually do to become lucid is to start remembering your dreams (dream recall). I have good memory and can remember most of my dreams clearly without needing a journal, but I'd suggest writing down your dreams in a journal to help you remember them. It helps with LD's.

      I hope this helps you.

The weird shapes and colors might be the start of hypnagognic imagery- the random images and patterns that appear in your mind as you enter the first stage of sleep. This is a normal part of sleep. But some people use hypnagognic imagery as a sign post on the way to lucid dreaming. Some WILD (Wake-Induced Lucid Dream) techniques call for conscious focus on hypnagognic imagery as you drift off to sleep, thus allowing you to keep part of your brain conscious and active as you enter the dream state and, theoretically, a lucid dream.

But that is only one technique. There are a plethora of others available here and in published texts (Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by LaBerge seems to be the definitive one).

All true, but the general consensus on this site is that focusing on the effects and waiting for the different processes will impede your WILDing.
In other words its ok to see them happening, but don't focus on them or get excited.

It's really up to your subconcious to 'give' you one that night. You can do all the checks in the world for infinite times and still not have an LD when your subconcious 'dosen't' want to. The key to success is the subconcious mind...deal with it and if it deals well with your concious mind ..your in business. But the deeper you probe into it the more confusing it is to your concious mind so it's best to not force it..let it be natural.
